The Blue Hedgehog lives on in the Dreamcast!

If you have a Dreamcast. 1) You must be a Sonic fan and 2)You would have this game! As a launch title for the Dreamcast, this was like what Halo was for the Xbox! Many people picked up the Dreamcast just because of this game! Another revelation is that Sonic is in 3D and it works! Unlike the terrible recently released 3D Sonic games (such as Sonic and The Black Knight and Sonic Unleashed), this one totally walks over them! Sega went all out and managed to implement the 2D Sonic games in a 3D space, while keeping Sonic's trademark speed, sound and moveset, while introducing some great (and not so great) characters into the series! Sonic Adventure is split into multiple storylines, with choices from Sonic, Tails, Knucles, Big The Cat (who should never have been invented) and more! Sonic's storyline is the biggest and the story is that Dr. Eggman (yes there is no Robotnik unfortunately) is up to his old tricks and again wants to take over the world with the help of the powerful being Chaos. He is trying to unlock the true power of Chaos and it is destroy with world. Sonic doesn't want this to happen and fights both Robotnik and Chaos! The graphics are absolutely superb for the Dreamcast and it really does capture the speed and sound of the famous blue Hedgehog. You will go through many different stages, going from beach to lava and more! Using your VMU, the game allows you to transfer Chao's (little creatures from the game) to your memory card and then use it as a pocket tamagochi! You can swap with your mate and transfer it back to the game! This gives you new minigames and more! Online did have leaderboards, however since Seganet has been offline for many years now, this isn't possible!

      bad sonic bad

Right I thought I would re do this review as many people thought I didn't really spend enough time describing how bad this game is. We shall start from the beginning, when the game first starts you are only able to choose from sonic but you can see the other characters you can unlock. When you first begin the game you are confronted with a cut scene that's looks like they used in game graphics to do, but it looks really terrible. Then you confront your first bad guy Chaos 1 this is the monster that you will fight for the entire game (there will be other monsters like monkeys with bombs and robots, and for some strange reason monkeys in bumper cars). Chaos is doctor robotniks also known as egg man evil monster in the game. The plot of the game is there are 7 or 6 cant quite remember chaos stones that egg man wants to feed to chaos to make it stronger. Been sonic and a good person (well blue hedgehog) you decide with the help of tails to collect them before him. Though this doesn't work and he steals them all in the end, along the way you bump into other sonic characters such as tails, knuckles and Amy plus some others, who you unlock. Through out the game you will every so often have to have a showdown with chaos or egg man and defeat them, this is rather simple as its a sonic game so its just jump hit run over and over again. All the other characters you unlock have stories to there quests that seem rather dull and boring. Unlocking the characters is to easy and really doesn't take much time. The world sonic lives in looks alright until you start seeing it, the cars and people are very low polygon modules and look and move terribly. The animation on the game such as lip sync is so out of time that it looks like there talking very very slow indeed. Game control is another thing that lets this game down, you character moves to quick some times and the game doesn't really respond well to your movement commands. How ever there is one really good part of this game and that is the Chao, these little creatures you find on the game and raise in there Chao garden. You feed them with fruits and they can take the form of animals you rescue. There are Chao mini events that you can enter your Chao into, these do make the game fun id rather play this part of the game instead of the rest. If you want a good sonic game buy a mega drive and then go buy sonic 1 or 2 these are how sonic should be.

      A superb adventure game

Sonic Adventure is probably the most famous game ever released on the Dreamcast - it wholly revamped the Sonic franchise, bringing it into the 3D world, with amazing graphics, and whilst reaction to the change was naturally going to be a little mixed, what Sonic Team ultimately pulled off was a considerable achievement - a living, breathing world of one of the most acclaimed and beloved video game series of all time. The plot's hardly rocket science - a planet called Mobius has seven Chaos Emeralds on it, which are a source of unfounded, absolute power, which Eggman (formerly Dr. Robotnik but changed due to legal reasons) wants to find. He, with the aid of a new enemy, called Chaos, attempts to find all of these crystals and bring about total world destruction, so it's up to Sonic and his team, including Tails and Amy Rose, to stop him with their unique abilities of speed and flight. The kicker of the game is that you can choose to play as a number of different characters throughout the game, giving you an altered perspective that is powered through the 128-bit Dreamcast, considering these vast options were never really available on previous systems due to technical limitations. Although it is essentially interchanging characters, it's a fun addition, considering each character has their own special abilities, making each run through a little different. The most stark change from the previous games it the meat of the "zones" themselves - no longer must you proceed on a fairly linear track, but instead you're free to roam around the map for the most part, finding out rings and other goodies. Whilst this does hamper the brilliant lightning pace that the original games had, it's also a brave and admirable experiment, for which I praise Sonic Team. For the most part, it's a success, and to make sure that the die-hards are pleased, there's also a few on-rails sections too. Although there are a few camera niggles, this is a wonderfully crafted game that shakes up the conventions of the series considerably, presenting a wholly different type of beast that is nevertheless visually stunning, artistically realised, and retains the mood and tone of the series. Excellent.

Fairly good game, Worth owning and playing over sometimes.

Finally after years of waiting after the great Sonic series on the Mega Drive console, and no outings on its following consoles, Sonic finally back, and in such style in 3D! The game which launched with the Sega Dreamcast console, offers a new Sonic adventure in great new realistic looking 3D graphics, awesome sounds and speedy level exploring gameplay. Tails and Knuckles return from previous adventures, Knuckles has to go through levels finding emeralds in hidden areas of the level, which is quite dissapointing as it takes away what Sonic games are all about which is speeding through the zones, you also get another 3 characters, Amy, Big, and E-102 Gamma. Three dissapointing adventures await these three as Amy goes on a slow route hammering things to get to places, Big does a lot of fishing in which i'm sure half of people including me find fishing boring, and the robot does nothing but very dull lock-on laser blasting. All of the characters go into the same Adventure hub level, to explore and go to the action stages, which is pretty neat, you get to catch a train ride from one place to another. The story which is a first in a Sonic outing, isn't too bad, It can be fun to watch somewhat but still mars the game i feel. Controls in places can get twitchy, but otherwise majority of levels are ok to control. Boss fights are extremley easy, and does not take much to complete, but much of the challenge comes with emblem collection. The sound affects are great, and the soundtrack music is wonderful, there are some true hits that you find humming to yourself. If you're a Sonic fan this really is a must have in your collection, but don't expect this to beat the classis mega drive games, they cannot be and will never be beaten for all round Hedgehog quality.

Fun and exciting visual game but constant game play issues

Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast was the first outing for the spikey haired blue hedgehog that enbraced the 3Dimensional roaming of the next generation consoles, and whilst Sonic's adventure into a 3D gameplay is excting and visually impressive, its a shame the Sega forgot about overall gameplay. Playing in first person you cut between tedious world-roaming intersections to find action levels, and the action levels themselves are flawed by too much holding down the joypad and going full speed doing nothing much else. There is also the constant camera-angle changes that make some parts of the action levels almost impossible, juttering around anywhere other than where Sonic is running. Despite this the worlds are extremely well rendered and designed providing some incredible action stages with all the traditional Sonic set pieces and pinball style in detailed 3D worlds. Overall, a fun and visually exciting game that is let down by some bad gameplay decisions.

A good game, graphically good, and is the first 3D sonic game

This is a review on the game called Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. It is a the first Sonic to be on the Dream cast, and also is the first adventure sonic game around. This is a usual Sonic game, as some people thought, well they are wrong. This game is different to the regular Sonic games. It is in 3D for starts, and you get to roam around in Station Square (where Sonic decides to live), Mystic Ruins (where Tails lives) and The Egg Ship (where Dr Robotnik thinks, and plans). You can do the missions when you like to, but they are in a specific order, even though you might see one, you might need something to unlock a door towards it. The first level of this game is a beach level; Tails has fallen out the sky again with his new contraption, a plan powered by something special. But before you do that, when you first start the game, you will fight a boss called Chaos. Who is the main bad guy you will have to fight in this game. Chaos is very easy to beat to start off, but he and Dr Robotnik are trying to find all 7 chaos emeralds before Sonic does so he can feed them to Chaos to make him stronger. Dr Robotnik succeeds in this quite a lot, and Chaos gets stronger and stronger over time. Sonic will have to face this foe many times to actually defeat it. There is also this awesome thing to do with this game, when you find a character, say like Tails, and you save him, then you will be able to play him in the game, which is cool. It is the same with Knuckles, Amy, Big, and Dr Robotnik’s robot he created. Each and every character has its own story line, so when you have completed it with Sonic, why not try playing the game with Tails, or Amy. They all have different missions to do, and sometimes it can be more fun or less fun. Some story lines are longer then others depending on which character you are. Sonic’s is the longest as you would probably have guessed. Also when you load the game up, you don’t need to just play the main game, there are other things also like Time attack, where you will be able to do the levels for fun, and try and beat your best time score. Great fun! In the game you will find items, which will upgrade your character. Sonic will be able to find a new set of shoes, which will make him be able to do new technique, and make him run faster also, which can be very useful within the game. Also for Sonic, you have to get it anyway, so you can do this mission. Knuckles has one which will increase the power of his knuckles, so he can punch into walls and other stuff to find items in the walls like rings and other such things. You will be able to find those upgrades simply, as it will be part of the story line, you will need to get them so don’t worry if you can’t find them at start, you will get them eventually. If you end up not finding any upgrade for the character, then that means it is one that you don’t actually need to get and you will need to find it in a secret location of some sort. Thanks for telling me about the game, I have this game, but I don’t know how to get to Mystic Ruins… Can you help? Well getting to Mystic Ruins is pretty simple, you can’t go there straight away, you will need to fight Chaos for the first time, and then do the first mission, and when you acquire Tails as a playable character, then he will ask you to go to Mystic Ruins, and you can go there by catching a train at the train station to go there. I have found the train; can I go anywhere else via this train? The answer to that is plain and simple, and its No, it can only take you to Mystic Ruins, and that’s all. I would like to know one thing, can Sonic turn into Super Sonic? For some strange reason, the newer Sonic games do not allow him to turn into Super Sonic; this game does not allow it, as you never have all 7 chaos emeralds at once. That can probably be the only disappointment to this game. There are many different types of missions for you to do, there will be Ice missions, and also ones where you fly around a lot, then others when you will have to avoid a tornado, and ones in a lava cave. Pretty good fun if you ask me. I would like to see Sonic do all those, and so can you by playing the game. The playability of this game is great, very enjoyable, loads of things you can do, including loads of extra mini games like Go-Kart racing, and others. It is awesome fun, and is a good game to play, very entertaining, very entertaining indeed. The game is very addictive, this game is good for more then just one person, it is a 2 player game also, pretty hard to play 2 player, but it is, as it says on the back of the case. One of you plays as Sonic, and the other plays as Tails, whom follows Sonic around on some of the levels. Very addictive for the whole family. This game is very original; it is the first Sonic game to have its own roam around, where you will be able to have fun just messing around at Station Square or Mystic Ruins, very fun, and great environment, especially for a Sonic game. Graphically, this game is amazing, has awesome graphics, the detail in the areas, and the levels that Sonic and the gang roam around. The details in the characters, the roads, the towns people, the bad guys, just very good. Compared to the older Sonic games, this owns them graphically. The background music to the game is great, all the type of music you would want to hear, and what you might recognize from previous Sonic instalments. Very good music. The game has voices, you will here them talk to each other when they are talking, also you will have subtitles, which you can change to any language that the game supports under the games options. The sound effects are great, with all the noises of the cars, the footsteps, the noises in the casino (yes… a casino), and other things, just great. The game is not that difficult at start like most Sonic games, but it does start to get hard the further you get into the game, you will need to train your skill for this Sonic game, so train up, and train hard if you wish to complete it. The last boss for each character is very hard, so be aware, if you are coming up to the last few levels, you might want to watch out, it will be hard to finish the game off. The game is great value, it costs around £10 - £20 now, and it is great for that amount of money. I bought it a while back and it cost me £10 pre-owned, and I have had great fun with the game, but as I don't have my dreamcast anymore I had to sell it, but I now own the Gamecube version. I shall give this game 3 star * * * though, because even though it is a great game, I have played much better since. I recommend this game to everyone, especially Sonic fans. Thanks For Reading!

Sonic Adventure is like no other Sonic game – Sega should be proud of themselves with a game of this calibre on a machine such as the Dreamcast. SA does not just follow Sonic, but five other characters as well, each with their own storylines, stages and ultimately, bosses. Sonic was relaxing in a hotel in Station Square. It was a quiet day – the sun was shining and the beach sand was a brilliant white. Yet out of nowhere, a plane appears! Sonic instantly recognises this as Tails, his two-tailed fox friend. Yet not all appears well – Tails is thrashing with the controls! He takes a left, a right, and a nosedive! CRASH! Sonic ventures off to find his friend… After participating through the first level, Sonic eventually reaches Tails and the crashed wreckage of the plane – Tails now becomes a playable character. Each of the other characters – Amy, Knuckles, E-102 Gamma and Big the Cat – are unlocked like this, creating multiple angles to look at the storylines. Sonic inevitably has the most stages and probably the best mini-games. Each character also comes with special items needed to complete the stages – like Sonic’s wristband that lets him follow a series of rings and E-102 Gamma’s jet pack that lets s/he float down to the ground. Each stage carries a grade – C, B and A. When you first compete in the stage, the aim is to get the ‘C’ ranking. If achieved, you can re-enter the stage in game or through trial mode (see below) to attempt the next ranking. The fruits of your exploits? Sonic Emblems – this is how you can monitor how well you fare against other people. I think that if you achieve every single emblem something special happens, but I can’t do it yet! And in each mini-game there are two emblems to collect as well – achieve a high score or low time to win them. The various mini-games include fishing, driving and snowboardi ng with a panache of flying. Each stage is individual (even though some characters do the same stages), with some containing the enemies that we see frequently from the Sonic games, some with those funny bouncy things, and even two pinball tables – one with the one-armed bandit like in the casino stage on Sonic 2 and the other similar to poker. There is one other mini-games to test yourself with – Chao racing. The technique is one similar to a tamagotchi, but in some aspects completely different. In SA, there are three ‘Chao gardens’, each with fruit to feed your chao – this raises their statistics. If you give them animals collected from the stages, it transforms not only their appearance, but also the distribution of abilities. You can download a chao onto your VM (Visual Memory, the Dreamcast memory card) and raise it that way as well. TO test your Chao, pit it in a race against computer controlled chao or your friend’s chao on one of three increasingly difficult courses. Win in a certain time and receive special items. Although your Chao never dies, I couldn’t be bothered to raise one because my VM batteries run out! My favourite aspect(s) of the game – in the casinopolis stage there are mini versions of pinball-style quests. One quest involves a slot machine (like the casino levels of the original sonic games) and the other involves poker (?!). If you fail top get 100 rings in 3 (pin)balls then you get chucked into the sewers. My other favourite is Big the Cat fishing – at times it can be easy to play but difficult to master. Although I haven’t completed the game yet (stuck on Knuckles and the forest statues – help anyone?), I felt compelled to write an opinion on such a brilliant game. The graphics, like the Dreamcast, are top notch and flow without any trouble whatsoever. The sound is classic Sonic music that is never boring, so that’s cool. Although I hate to end on a bad note, there is one crippling factor to SA – its camera. Every so often it moves into a very annoying position that means that you die, no matter what direction you press, because the camera is stuck behind the scenery. Overall, a stunning effort from Sega – and now I have to convince my friend to let me borrow Sonic Adventure 2! Advantages: New angle on Sonic More than just Sonic, Tales and Knuckles Varying levels of difficulty Disadvantages: Bad camera IanJC

Sonic Adventure was a launch title for the illustrious Sega Dreamcast and I have to say that it was probably one of the biggest leaps in adventure games of all time. Sonic has been around for over ten years, and his first outing on the Sega Dreamcast was a very successful one, arriving in a full 3D action packed fun filled adventure, as the title would suggest. Nearing two years of age now, the game has had a sequel in the form of the also pretty impressive Sonic Adventure 2, but still remains one of the best games on the console, as well as being an incredible bargain at just £7.99 from retailers. The game sees Sonic and 5 friends on their own little adventures which all blend into one towards the end – the main goal for sonic is to defeat the creature called Chaos, as well as fending off the evil Dr Egg man (Dr Robotnik). I wont spoil it for you too much, but needless to say the game has many strengths – a great sense of character, Sonic Team graphics that will not disappoint, and the most brilliant gameplay with very few faults at all. Plus points: Great graphics and some excellent effects, one of the first DC games to take advantage of the power. Massive game, with loads and loads of levels, sub levels and mini games – will keep you entertained for ages! Superb sense of character and style – Sonic Team really did turn up the heat with this one. Price! It’s just £7.99 – you cannot go wrong. Downsides: Unfortunately the in game camera crew were all drunk, thus dodgy cameras. Frustrating gameplay at times – some levels are really hard and monotonous, but only a few. Overall, a top game, at the time I would have given 4 stars, but because of the price and replay value, I have to say 5.

          Disadvantages

Sonic Adventure was one of the first games around on the DC and has definitely got to be one of the best. A simple storyline for everyone to understand-Dr Robotnik(EGGMAN)is back on the scene and your mission is to defeat him! If you loved Sonic on the original Sega then you will love it on the Dreamcast. The game has two ways of working really, the first is of course the action levels, where you shoot/attack the bad guys and the second way of working is when you walk around between levels. You can find new features, collect new emblems and also breed and create your own virtual pet! This is no joke, a lot like a "tamogotchi" you can save a pet, known as a chao, on to your VMU and play games with it. You can also build up your pet and make it play/reproduce with other people's chao's! This is the great thing about Sonic Adventure, you can play added games with it, also while your in an action stage("hedgehog hammer" for example) Also adding to the game are the new characters-5 in all, and for each one you have a different story to follow. This is a good thing but charcters such as "big the cat" tend you really annoy you the more you play with them! I won't explain any more about the game except that you must buy it, and it is now down to £10 in the majority of shops, so you have no excuse! A true masterpiece for the DC.

We have seen many excellent platformers over the past few years usually with good graphics and the some great gameplay. Sonic adventure offers some real-deal graphics some fast smooth gameplay and 6 characters to play with! The plot for the game is shall we say… pants and if you have played the Megadrive version then you will be bored all the way through the video clip as most are Robotnik making empty threats as usual. He is collecting emeralds for his new monster Chaos and the name originality really disappoints me as all the previous games were set in the land of chaos so you think that Sega could of though of one more name, but no! The aim of the game is to successfully recover the emeralds and if chaos gets seven he becomes invincible so you have to get them first. Every now and again you will face chaos after he has another emerald and there for gets stronger with every one he eats so it does get harder. You play with six different characters all with diverse games, levels and hates for Robotnik of their own! The gameplay on sonic is like a dream with all your characters easy to control and play with at most times making it extremely fun to run around. It is just a basic platform but seems like so much more when playing with lots to explore and find around the worlds you go to. The play is very fast at times and sometimes you wont even be able to control anything as you’re bouncing off barriers or whizzing down ramps at quite some speed and then it’s when you realize how first-rate of a platformer sonic really is. After hitting a speed up and you are racing along a massive stretch pf road, then look at everything sonic team has put into the back round. Dolphins, excellent scenery, and water these all make the entire game that much better to look and play. The visuals on sonic are superb and are the dreamcast at it’s best so far. Everything looks pleasant and sometimes I was rather looking at the things to my side instead of the character I was playing with. Everything is made perfectly and maybe that’s why the game is shorter than expected. There are six characters over the game to play with… Sonic- this is the main character and has the most missions out to stop Robotnik taking over Station Square with chaos. Tails- the cool little fox is out on the same mission as sonic with some very fun levels to play on. Knuckles- this is my favourite character as he can swoop fist first, do a punch combo, dig, and climb walls which are all fun to do. He is trying to get pieces for the master emerald he is guarding and the aim of his levels are to find the three pieces. Amy- The cute, pink hedgehog is back and looking as hot as ever. She as a nifty hammer attack but it doesn’t do much and she is quite slow. E102 “Y”- this is one of Robotnik’s robots and at first the aim is to kill sonic and good guys. But soon the robot realizes his master’s evil and makes friends with Amy. He can go quite fast, shoot a laser and homing missile and hover with a jet booster. Big the cat- This big slow cat is out to find his best pal a frog who ate his emerald and went off to the city! He can only fish and pick things up. Over all sonic is a great game and now it usually comes with a dreamcast and *Cough* some companies give it away for free couldn’t give any names right now though. You should get this as it is very cheap and worth the money and will definitely keep you busy for at least a couple of weeks straight. I give it 9/10! Go get it! T_W

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

On March 11th, 2000, I received an early birthday present. What was it? A SEGA Dreamcast, with Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver, and Sonic Adventure, I hadn't really played Sonic before, or any of the other games at that, but I thought I'd leave sonic until last, since I've never really liked platform games. The only platform game that ever really caught my eye was Crash Bandicoot, because it felt original. I was originally having second thoughts about keeping Sonic... But i thought I'd give it a try at least. I unwrapped it, opened the case, took out the CD/GD, and popped it into my new Dreamcast. I was stunned. The graphics were superb, and the gameplay had me hooked until the very end. It was easy to finish, but I still haven't completed it. I got past the SuperSonic adventure, which had me hooked, as SEGA saved the best level for last. I beat the level, and thought I had completed the game... But then, I found out about the 'Medals'.... Over 150 of them. And I STILL haven't gotten them all. This game really is good, it's easy for young children, (Well... mostly) and it plays like a dream. Some parts being tremendously hard, and some being easy, but perfectly balanced. It had me hooked. I'd play it every day, until I beat it. Playing as all the characters gave it an inventive and original twist, and I couldn't believe that there was a platform game I actually liked. I can't wait for Sonic Adventure 2, and I'm definitely getting that one on the day of release. SEGA... Keep putting out games like this, and you'll probably make history. As for winning the console wars... Well, that'll never end. I love this game, and it'll be my favorite game until Sonic Adventure 2 is released.
