Advantages: Impressive gameplay and graphics.
Disadvantages: You can injure your thumbs playing it.
Soul Calibur was one of the games that sold me on the idea of the Dreamcast. A couple of years ago I'd wasted many weeks battling with friends at Soul Blade on the PS so I was really looking forward to Soul Calibur. On my first night of play I notched up 6 hours of gameplay and realised that if I didn't get myself an arcade stick I was going to seriously hurt my thumbs (just as I'd done with Soul Blade).
The graphics are amazing, detailed and fluidly animated. The gameplay is addictive, helped primarily by the adventure mode where you complete a series of tasks to open up new features. I spent many hours battling at that until I completed it (the arcade stick was a big help here it makes things a lot easier). It's also good fun to quickly pick up and play through the arcade mode and again there's a few game extras to be found in here.
This is my favourite beat-em-up (though Dead or Alive 2 might change that). Highly recommended as one of the games to own on the Dreamcast. It has something to offer for both the single player and when playng against friends.
