This is the fourth game in the SSX series. If you didn't know it's a snowboarding game, the first two were more arcade styled with whacky characters, unique and random levels and super special moves. This game continues the process of making the game more serious and realistic but still being fun to play. It is similar to the previous game but with some new features such as the option to create your own character, the option of skiing rather than snow boarding and also in the Gamecube version you can play as Mario, Luigi or Princess Peach.
The gameplay is pretty much the same with different game modes i.e. races, trick contests, one on one races etc. There are some powerups that increase your boost level otherwise you increase it by doing tricks. The skiing option is pretty much the same as the snowboarding gameplay but it's a nice touch. The option of playing as Mario and Co. is also a nice gesture to the fans.
This isn't a recent game but the graphics still hold their own and are of a high standard for the Gamecube. The music is the usual generic stuff that EA put in their games but it's not that bad.
There is plenty of replayability with all the different career challenges and shreds in the single player mode, there is also the multiplayer mode and just the general fact that games like these are fun to just sit and play. This is the best snow boarding game on the Gamecube so I definitely recommend it in that respect. If you have another console you may need to consider the more recent games but this is great bang for your buck.
The Gamecube always reminded me of a more technically superior version of the Nintendo 64, i'm not sure if that was the intention but it defintley feels like that to me. There's so mnay games that you can see fitting a nintendo but not finding a home on other systems such as a playstation, and even when they do the nintendo refelcts and suits the game much more.
With SSX On Tour this is one of those occasions, the game is basically snowboarding and ski-ing all meshed into one on different mountains and courses.
Graphics - They look good with each little snowboarder being customizable and looking very sharp. The backgrounds are all nice too.
Gameplay - Well it glides very well, thats the best way to describe it, it's fast and easy to use after a few shots at it and does feel quite rewarding when you play it.
Sound - This is pretty good with some selected tracks set to fit the scene impeccably.
Longevtity - With plenty of modes to play and different characters all with their own style. You will be slicing up snow for quite some time. Has a good few tracks to play on too.
Overall - This is a really fun snowboarding game that fans of high paced action sports should love.
