      wonderful

Ah, the joys of Tetris. Most people know the concept of this, blocks fall from the top of the screen and you have to fit them into shapes at the bottom of the screen to score points and to stop them from mounting up and losing.

Here are some of my thoughts:

      * The shapes are generally quite easy to work with, slotting together easily. I would have liked some different shapes in the game to make it even more of a challenge

      * The music is very annoying, more variations on the theme tune could have been done. Especially if you're playing for ages, this can irritate

      * One of the quickest games to load though, that is pleasing

      * The graphics are sufficient enough for the type of gameplay, anything else would be confusing to work with

      * Very addictive and frustrating if you lose a game

      * It stimulates the brain cells and keeps the fingers very alert

      * I actually completed the game. I was playing in an airport and I sat playing for hours, the game got faster and faster and suddenly it froze and a rocket took off and apparently I had 'won Tetris' and there I was thinking it was neverending

      Verdict:

Great gameplay and incredibly addictive, you have to give it a try once in your lifetime

Written by a Russian, published by a Japanese company, bought by me, aged 13, in the UK in 1989. Tetris. One of the greatest games... ever is truly multinational and fantastically addictive. This is a review of the original Tetris, that was given away with the Gameboy upon its release. The new DX added a few thigns, such as hi score save, butis pretty similar for all intents and purposes. Even now I boot Tetris up to have a quick blast, some 12 years later. In fact, I just "splashed out" for another copy from eBay it's so great. Now Mrs Quirky and me will be able to enjoy the greatness that is 2 player Tetris. Mmmm. Linky. Tetris is one of the only games that girls seem to like. Must have good taste! :o) So, what's it all about? Well, for all the hermits out there, Tetris is an old skool puzzle game. It comes in two 1-player flavours on the Gameboy - "A Type" and "B Type". They are both pretty much the same apart from A Type goes on forever (potentially) and B Type has a set goal. You start off in A Type with an empty "bucket" and from the top of the screen blocks fall. The blocks are made from smaller squares of four, arranged in all possible combinations. This gives rise to 7 blocky buddies: Skinny 4 in a row block (everyone's fave) Fat all together block L shaped block L shaped block's mirror image A squished S shape Squished S's mirror image Mr T. These blocks fit together, or not as the case may be, and when a horizontal row is formed, it disappears. Any gaps in a row cause it to stay on the screen - the entire world can see that you have messed up? The idea is to keep the falling blocks from causing a pile up and reaching the top of the screen. When this happens it is Game Over (man) you get to put in your hi score, and then start all over again. Determined not to make the same mistake twice? In B
Type, you have the target of clearing 25 lines. This is made tougher by the screen already starting off with half filled rows that you must complete. When you reach 25 lines a load of little on screen characters do a funny Russian-style jig. Very odd. On the old 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System, this was a load of Penguins running around Red Square instead. They don't make 'em like this anymore! There are various difficulty levels, determined by how fast the blocks fall. The faster, the more difficult, as it gives you less time to react. The plus of this is that at higher difficulty settings you get a bigger point bonus for double, triple and TETRIS rows (a Tetris is when you clear 4 rows together, only possible with our good friend Mr Tall and Skinny Block) Multiplayer is also great. I haven't played it for a while, but it has Luigi and Mario in there pulling weird faces and bleeping encouragement. When you clear more than 2 rows together, some indestructible blocks are sent to your opponent's screen. The winner is the player who manages to avoid the screen filling up. This is a spectacular example of gameplay over graphics. Although I have loads of the latest Gameboy Advance games, I often return for a quick blast of the old block buster!

If you have never heard of the game tetris you have never lived. It is probably the most famous, most fun, most addictive, and even the most playable multi player game out there. Originally on the game boy, but since ported to many other systems, the idea of tetris is very simple, different shaped blocks (including squares, l shapes a t shapes) fall from the sky and you have to fit them neatly at the bottom. The better you do this, the more of a tetris master you become. A truly amazing game.

Before going on my last holiday abroad I promised to buy my husband a game-boy to keep him entertained whilst I read my books. So, off I trundled to Comet, being the worst computer game player in the history of the world due to absolutely no co-ordination. I was none too excited about my pending purchases. I left the shop clutching the bag containing the Game-Boy Colour, Tetris DX, Mario Golf etc etc etc etc So, lying by the pool I asked if he would teach my Tetris.... yes I had never dabbled before and did not know what it was. This was the second day of our holiday, and believe me he did not get his hands back on that Game-Boy ever again, even now 8 months later, he has to fight me for it. Such a simple idea but so addictive. I have got the point where I have to get him to hide it because I am loosing sleep, getting severe thumb cramp and dreaming about stupid little square objects!!! It is an absolute essential game Fantastic it will never be betten

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

I am reviewing original tetris here, as I can't find it anywhere else. Basically, Tetris is probably the best game ever in terms of universal simplicity and addictiveness. You all know what it is, so there's no need to explain. It has been copied many times, but remains the classic. I first started playing when I was around 10, in the 80's. I played for a few years, then stopped for a few years. Time passed by...then I rediscovered it. How wrong I was to think that Gameboys were uncool...now I have the old-skool grey Gameboy back! Nostalgia... So now I've started playing again, and play with about 4 other guys from my college. Soon we are going to get another Gameboy in, and play link-up, but at the moment we are just trying to beat each other in solo. My record, if anyone cares, is 201 lines but I know I can beat that. One of my friends can supposedly do 250 lines, when he was in a trance-like state of tetris oneness...he never got close to it again :-) . I hear the world record is in the 290's. And now Tetris has been immortalised in the cult novel The Beach! Hehe, I could whip Richard and Keaty, they can only do a pitiful 170-odd...I can also do 360000 points. The cheat for tetris is to hold down and press start once on the menu - this will add ten levels to your starting level, so level 9 is actually 19. I can do 107 lines on level 19, and can get up to level 14 on Game B, high 5. If anyone can get level 15 high 5, then they are a Tetris god! Another worthwhile challenge for Tetris fans is to play level 9, high 0 and get all tetrises, 7 in a row - it's pretty easy though. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can beat me, or just wants to chat about tetris...just leave a comment or email me!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

I borrowed my 8 year old nephews Color Gameboy for travelling home after visiting my parents and it took me six months to return it I told him I had lost it because I did not want to give it up, this was due to me getting addicted to the color version of Tetris it is much more pleasing to look at than the black and white version, and also the fact that I had beaten all the highest scores possible. I sat for hours in bed at night with this thing until I had beaten my previous best and was aggrivated when I did not do it, it was taking over my life, that is when I decided to return the game to my nephew I had to grow up!! Well that is what I thought after two weeks of returning it I became bored and started to play snakes on my Nokia 5110 but it just was not the same not as taxing on the brain so I went and bought my own game boy and I am addicted yet again, but with all sort of games Mario, Pokemon it is just one of the best and the list goes on, if you want to prevent yourself from getting bored a Gameboy will do it for you, like Red Bull it stimulates the mind and now in color what else can you ask for!!

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

This must have been a no-brainer for someone at Nintendo. Updating the most addictive, not to mention popular, puzzle game around for their color Gameboy must have seemed like a winner. And it is. Exactly how you update Tetris is the problem. And the answer is you don't - it's perfect as it is. Instead, they add some useful save game features as well as more little animations for the good players to find. The big problem with this version of Tetris is that it's a bit easier than the last. I found myself scoring almost twice what I can on the old Gameboy Tetris, and I actually know someone who managed to max out both the lines and the score counter on the game (after several hours play, mind you). But it's a minor complaint. This is the one game you *must* own if you have a Gameboy. It'll last you forever.

                  Disadvantages

Have you ever hallucinated after a heavy dose of Tetris? During the school holidays when I was a wee nipper I used to vegetate on my sofa with my sister's Gameboy and Tetris. As any Gameboy player will know, Tetris is officially The Most Addictive Game In The World... EVER!!! However, call me paranoid, but I think Nintendo have laced Tetris with sublimnal techno-nicotine. I first started to suspect one afternoon after I had been playing for 5 1/2 hours (between 'Saved By The Bell' and 'Neighbours') when I started to have cubic visions. The world seemed slightly pixelated, corners appeared where curves had once been and my eyes kept darting from the ceiling to the floor. The 'Neighbours' theme tune was also slightly warped, no-longer being drums and saxophone, but a cheap, high-pitched casio-keyboard rendition. I no-longer trust Nintendo, nor that fat 'so-called' plumber they call Mario. Remember, just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not after you... UPDATE... do not play 'Snake' on Nokia Mobile Phones... also heavily impregnated with pixelated-poisons... similar effects to tetris... emphasises right-angles in every-day life...

                    Disadvantages

I think just about everyone has heard of Tetris, and probably played a version of it on one computer or another. The latest version for the Gameboy colour takes advantage of the colour capabilities for better graphics and clearer gameplay. However don't expect anything you haven't seen in previous versions of Tetris. Gameplay is as addictive as its always been, so you'll find yourself spending hours trying to get a little further up the levels. What you do get with this version is a solid game of Tetris that's portable. If you haven't got a version of Tetris for your Gameboy this would be the one to get. That said I haven't played my copy all that much, probably because the game is all too familiar and with a number of far more interesting games for the GBC you'll get more out of those.

I don't think I need to write a small explanation of the game, I mean c'mon, who doesn't know what Tetris is??? Tetris is the game of the millenium that everyone should own. Its addictive gameplay can keep anyone occupied for hours, you'll be amazed how much fun slotting little blocks into spaces can be! The best thing about this Tetris is its feature of two player gaming. But you need two Game Boys and a link cable. Well, fork out the cash for a link cable (its worth it).

                    Disadvantages

Tetris DX is my favourite game ever. It's great. It's a great update of the best puzzle game ever, maybe the best game ever overall. The concept is simple but the implementation is perfect. I find it hard to believe that anyone in the western world has not played this game, but I'll give ya a quick explanation anyway: There are 7 different shapes of block (supposedly the number of things the human mind can cope with at one time is 7). The blocks fall from the top of the screen and you have to stack them into a wall, preferably with no gaps in it. Every time you complete a horizontal line it dissapears. If you do more than one at a time you get extra points. As your score increases, so does the speed of the falling blocks. If they stack all the way to the top of the screen it's game over. And that's that. Sounds too simple doesn't it? Well it's not. It's just pure, unadulterated, gaming perfection. Gameing doesn't get any better than Tetris, and DX is the best version of it. If you have a gameboy, get this game, if you don't, get one so you can play this. It is the perfect travel game, with various modes and score challenges to keep you occupied. I have played it for hours on end in planes, trains, automobiles, boats and anywhere else that I've needed to kill some time. It even has a great twoplayer and some nice link up features (you need a link cable). If you want portable gaming, you want Tetris DX. What are you waiting for? Go get it!

Is it possible to make a game that is more mind boggingly simple than the original tetris? That game was one of the most addictive games ever and yet anyone who had never played it may think it is boring. This newer version is much more upto date, the fact that the game is in colour being the main difference while it has still kept the addictive pull of its predecessor. If you are looking for something to pass a few hours in the sun this summer then this may well be the game for you.

I think that Tetris Deluxe is a great game. I often find myself on it for hours on end. Although many people see Tetris as being boring it is actually quite addictive and exciting. You can't beat smashing your own record for getting 40 lines. Tetris is simple yet has many different strategies you can use. It is not just a cheap copy of the other Tetris's made to get money. Although I find this game very addictive I know that some of my friends prefer to just play it for 10-15 minutes when they have time. Overall it is a very good game.

If you have a game boy but don't have Tetris then you are severely missing out. Tetris, Pokemon and Super Mario Bros are essential titles. Tetris is the game we all know and love, in colour but as addictive as ever. While the game may be old, it's still one of the best games around. The "one more go" factor is high, as you want to beat your previous best. You can also input 3 players names, to keep personal records, which is a very useful feature, as it allows me to show just how much better I am than my girlfriend! A must have game if ever there was one!
