Having watched the movie several times and really enjoyed it I thought I'd buy the game for my gamecube to see if that matched up and also as I would like my kids to get into it and play it soon.
For those who don't know or who have not seen the movie it's the story that revolves around a family of retired superheroes who have been told they cannot use their powers any more and must live amongst others as ordinary humans. The game does a pretty good job of following the plot of the film and does this quite strictly. Every so often it wanders off on it's own but not much.
The gameplay itself in The Incredibles game is pretty consistent with other action games. You can play as different characters and each of these characters are assigned their own levels. Each of these specific levels is geared towards the particular powers of that character as they all have varying attributes. Mr. Incredible, the head of the family, has great strength and his levels are normally like a beat em up game where you have to fight off hoards of bad guys. His wife, Elastigirl's levels take into account her stretching powers and feature puzzles that put that into play. Their daughter, Violet can turn invisible for short periods and her levels tend to be very stealth orientated. Then there is their son Dashiell who has incredible speed.
The game is pretty fun to play and being able to play as the different characters adds a bit of replay value but the two main problems with this game are that it gets a bit repetitive quickly and it's also a bit too short. The other thing that lets it down somewhat is the inability to save the game in the middle of levels as it gets frustrating when you get killed halfway through and you have to start at the beginning again. On the plus side the graphics are good and it's quite entertaining while it lasts.
Overall, if you like the movie then it's worth giving a go as it's quite fun and matches the film quite well, but it's not challenging enough for some I'd say and a bit too short and repetitive.
I was very much looking forward to playing this game, after enjoying the movie a lot.
I think, however, that the film was better. This is because the graphics on the film are a lot better than those on the game!
The good things about the game are that you can choose which of the characters from the film, The Incredibles, you want to play as, and each has its own game. I think that the best games are Violets, but that could be becuase I preferred her character in the film as well!
Overall, I think that this was a slightly disappointing effort, and that the makers could have come up with something better, with better graphics- more like those of the film. However, if you did enjoy the film then I think, like me, you will find some fun and a good few hours of play time in this game!
I actually half expected this game to be rubbish when I bought it, so I was very surprised when I found that it was actually quite good! You play as various members of the Incredibles that you can see in the film and each one has their own levels in a different style to the others. This means that it is more like a selection of minigames that are mostly good. My favourite levels are probably those of "Dash", in which you have to move around chasing after things as fast as you can. Mr Incredible (platform game style levels) also has some fun levels but there are a few that are really terrible due to annoying level design such as when you have to repeat certain sections over and over again! The appearance of the game is not that great, as although everything moves smoothly I foun it to look a little blocky. The game is also very short which means that it is not really a great choice if you are looking to spend more than a few hours on it.
