There is not a lot that I can say about this boreing, pointless, waste of money AND space on the shelves! What fun can you see about racing the same people over and over again just to buy a new car? At least Gran Turismo is good! Shall we start then? You start of with a lowly 25,000 credits (not a lot) to buy yourself a piece of c**p! You have to race for about 2-3 hours before you start earning some real money but when you buy the best car congratulations you have completed the game because there is nothing left to do! When your going quite fast and more than 3 cars are on the screen at the same time it goes incredibly slow! WHY??? The dreamcast is one of the most powerful machines out! Why does it go slow? I've got better things to do in my time than comment on this game! If your going to buy it......DONT
When a driving game claims to be different from your run-of-the-mill track or rally game, you feel a bit dubious. When that game is a release title on the "next big thing", you just that something is awry. Tokyo Highway Challenge, by Genki, is that title, claiming to be a mixture of two popular genres, driving and fighting. Yes, I said driving and fighting. The idea is that you are one of Tokyo's kamiaze style higway racers, challenging other driver on the city's twisted streets by flashing your headlights at them. Sound strange? You damn right it's strange. Both battling cars have beat 'em up style energy bars displayed at the top of the screen, when your car is in the lead, your opponents energy depletes and vice versa. The bigger the gap, the faster the decline. When I read the press release, I thought that it was a great idea. The only problem is that there are 137 different drivers to beat and the concept wears off after beating 3 of them. There is only 1 very straight and boring circuit that looks and plays more like the M25 in rush hour than downtown Tokyo, the only saving grace being that you can race it backwards if you wish. That said, there wouldn't be much point in having a racetrack to drive on, since the handling is so sluggish that all but the gentlest of corners lead to you having an improptu meeting with the wall. And I'm afraid it doesnt' get any better at all. The graphics, although quite impressive at first glance, reveal their flaws as you play on, with slowdown and pop-up rife throughout. The music and sound effects are just plain annoying and rather than adding to the game as they should, they detract from it, with the worst part being the constant 1-tone drone of your engine that is sure to make you fall asleep. There is never any damage to the car, which is strange considering that there are no official licences to prevent it. Another factor that makes this game rushed
. Poor music, poor AI, poor gameplay and poor handling leave just one word to describe the game. Poor.
Tokyo Extreme is like one of those movies that the critics downplay, but turns out to be a cult classic. Quite simply, it is the most addictive game I've ever played. If your tired of Grand Prix style racing games, check this one out...The cars you race are real cars and they've been designed to handle and perform like their actual counterparts. Really, the detail that went into this game is amazing. And it takes a while to beat, like a great game should! Alot of people that have played it thought it was boring. It's definitely a game for the hardcore racer. I think your actual driving style must fit this game in order to enjoy it. This is one of those games where you'll either love it, or you'll hate it.
In Tokyo highway challenge you drive around in Tokyo in a car, challenging other racers to race you. If you win this races you win money, which you can use to buy more expensive and better cars, gran turismo style. The graphics in Tokyo highway challenge are truly amazing, and the gameplay isn’t bad either. The one problem with Tokyo highway challenge is the length of it (v short) and the fact that it is so easy. A very good, but quite a short game worth renting out for a night or 2.
this is one of the most boring games i have ever played, you might think driving round a highway, challanging other drivers to races would be fun, well trust me, its not.Its ok to start with, but all the races are the same and its quite difficult too. Another bad thing is that there are no different highways!, its the same boring one all the time! I enjoyed this game for about a day before i realized how rubbish it was, so dont make the same mistake, dont buy this game, you will regret every minute of it, recommend it to anyone who like being bored, otherwise, stay well clear of this game.
My mate got this game for chrismas in a package deal with some other games. Since this game had been given some quite bad reviews then I had never bothered to play it. The other day me and two of my friends where bored so we decided to play on Tokyo Highway Challenge and it actually turned out to be quite a decent game. This game has an all new style to it (like alot of DC games). What you have to do is to race around the highways of Tokyo and find other boy racers and give em a flash of your lights and ure away on a highspeed race!! The game has a new style of racing which is....Both players start off with a bar at the top of the screen. Once the race starts the car that is behind will start to lose enery from his bar, The further the leader pulls awat from the other car the further the quicker the other cars energy bar will start to go down. If the other car is closer to you then it will go down slower. If the car overtakes you then our energy bar will go down. The car which does not lose all its energy is the winner!! This game has various options aswell to keep you entertained. Quick Race = As you can probably imagine.....A quick Race!! Quest Mode = This is by far the best mode in the game. You start off with a small amount of money (enough to buy a rubbish car). Then you go out onto the streets of Tokyo to race other cars and earn some vital money to upgrade your car. The people out on the streets also upgrade their cars!! To start you only earn small amounts of money racing other slow cars like yourself. You race cars from other gangs. When you have beeten all the cars from a gang their leader comes up behind you and challenges you to a race. The leader normally has a faster car than you so this is a hard race. You will earn alot of money if you defeat him. Eventually you will be able to afford new cars and engines for them. VS Mode = This is where two people race. In this mode you can use your s
tandard cars or use you cars from quest mode!! In this game there are lots of cars available to buy but the only drawback is that they do not have offical licences but if you know anything about cars then you will know what cars they are because they look Exactly the same as the originals. There are lots of cars available including : Mitsubishi Lancer EVO6 Subaru Imprezza Honda NSX Twin Turbo Toyota Supra Nissan Skyline Porshe 911 Carrera Mitsubishi GTO and many more....... There is the option of renaming your cars so you can call them the original names. In quest mode you can buy lots of upgrades for your cars including : Engines Drive Trains Suspension Wheels Mufflers Spoilers Lights Front Grills Bumpers Rear Bumpers Side Skirts Mirrors and more...... This game is a good game untill you complete quest mode and even then you can always have a laugh with your mates. One drawback to this game is definatly the controls. The turning is not sharp enough so you have to brake alot but this might have been done on purpose. I have seen a few PRE-views of Tokyo 2 and that game looks Amazing!!!! It actually uses the full power of the DC which no game yet made has done!!!!
When released, this game was branded as being a poor attempt at a game. However, i feel the developers created the game aimed at people who like driving fast and NOT for general gamers. Fans of racing games such as myself only ask for a game with good graphics (Which it had) thats fast (Which it was) and with loads of cars (Sort of) I found the game to be exciting and fun. The thought of a game whereby you encourage other drivers to race along a highway at breakneck speeds is brilliant. "This game scratches the surface of Dreamcast's power", and the sequel WILL unleash the beast!.
