      Disadvantages

      Highly addictive and fun

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater came out in 1999 and I bought the game for my playstation not long after and have to say it's highly addictive and great fun whether you playing on your own or with a group of mates. A skateboarding game is such a simple concept in itself and yet the game has so much appeal.

This particular game features over ten different professional skaters, ranging from Tony Hawk himself to Elissa Steamer who is the only female skater in the game. Every skater comes with their own distinct skills. Tony for example is a skater who excels in half-pipe moves.

There are three different modes you can select from as you play. There is free skate, single session and career mode. Free skate is exactly what it sounds like, and that is that you just go around on any level that is unlocked and pull off tricks and do whatever you want. It is great to practise on this mode until you have mastered the controls fully. This is where you'll get the taste for the skating and the moves you can peform before you launch into the rest of the game head on.

The single session mode is a one-level version of the career mode. You have a two minute limit to rack up as many points as possible with your skating. Again this mode is great for learning the basics in a new area that has been unlocked.

Career is the main core of this game. You will at first have only one level to skate on, but then as you get points or acheive certain goals you will unlock more and more levels. Also, you are able to unlock secret characters as well.

There are in addition as well, a couple of competitions to take part in. You will run three heats against the professionals and get scored on how you do. The more original you are the more chance you have basically. The better scores will be attained by more combos, tricks and such like. You will have to finish in the top three to move to the next level.

None of the levels are the same which is great as adds to the interest and replay value of the game. Some of them are great fun to play as you try out different cities.

The gameplay and controls are simple enough, but there so much more depth to this game than initially meets the eyes. There are so many ways to execute moves and you will spend hours scoping out a level to see what other crazy tricks you can perform.

This is a great game and the graphics and soundtrack do not let it down either. Highly recommended and I reckon you can get this cheaply now as well.

      always a pleasure to play

There is nothing quite like getting together with a group of mates, sitting down with a few beers and having a contest on Tony Hawks Pro Skater.

The original game is what set the whole series on a roll. Its fantastic gameplay along with its huge gaming abilities made it popular fast.

You can choose from a variety of professional skaters in the game. You then enter the single player mode where you can perform many different stunts and tricks all taken from the real life professionals. For the stunts you perform you receive points and you can earn stat points by completing missions.

These stat points can be used to increase your skaters abilities. You will need to increase your abilities to complete some of the harder tasks in the game.

The game is also filled with hidden stunts to perform on certain objects taking reality to the unreal.

You can play the game two player as well with a variety of different options. This is by the far the most fun you can have with the game.

What's that you've got there then? A skateboarding game? Okay, well let's have a go. I don't play computer games myself. Addictive? No, computer games aren't addictive. Don't be silly. No, you can't have the controller back, I've just got to do this 360 benihana into a frontside smith grind, then you can have it. What do you mean it's five o'clock in the morning and we haven't eaten for 36 hours? You're blocking the screen! Can't you see I'm about to unlock the Downhill Jam playing as Bob Burnquist? No you can't have the CD back. Hey, no, don't do that. Put it back. Put it back! Don't smash the CD with a hammer. Don't set the instruction book on fire. Don't throw it out of the window. What do you mean it's for my own good? How can it be for my own good? I loved that game. What time does the shop open? Hey, where have you hidden my wallet? I can so be trusted. No, I'm not being irrational. What don't you understand? I'm going to give it a proper burial in the back garden. I loved that game...

Characters: Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Kareem Campbell, Rune Glifberg, Bucky Lasek, Chad Muska, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Elissa Steamer, Jamie Thomas.

Skate parks: Woodland Hills Warehouse, Miami School, New York Mall, Chicago Skate Park, Minneapolis Downtown, Phoenix Downhill Jam, Burnside Portland, San Francisco Streets, Roswell New Mexico.

Hand-plant + grind + ollie + backflip + darkslide + 360 flip to mute + fingerflip to airwalk + indy nosebone + crooked grind + front foot impossible + stalefish + kickflip mctwist + 540 board varial + 360 shove it rewind + christ air + casper slide + 900 = REALLY BIG SCORE, YEAH!!!!!

      LOL

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Well, it's a skateboarding game. You skate. That round it up? Yes, and no. Yes, you do skate on it, but there is a bit more for that. Pull tricks, get points. Do tricks, get tapes. Also, challenges (collect secret tape, collect S K A T E) will get you tapes too. Tapes get you better boards and more levels. Great system, very rewarding. Oh I may also mention the learning curve on this is perfect. Like many other games, Spryo 2 and 3 for example. The gameplay is good and immersive, the graphics are sharp, better with a SCART lead, and it will last you a long time. Well, that's about it in this opinion. Till the next one, bye.

            Disadvantages

This was much better than I thought it would be. The game is brilliant and very addictive. The levels are also very addictive but only because they are hard and vary so much. The levels are realistic. They do these moves easily although they look backbreaking. They spend about 10 minutes in the air and spin around at speeds you can follow with your eyes easily. You can spin, flip and grab to accumulate points. The aim is to try and get as many of these points as possible in each level. You get points by performing tricks. There are objectives on each of the levels such as score 8000 points to get a tape. There are 5 tapes on each level and the more tapes you have, the more levels and characters you unlock This is a great game to play.

              Disadvantages

This is, hands down, the greatest game for the Nintendo 64. It features authentic skaters, it has genuine tricks, it has skaters’ real signature moves, and you can actually skate on your skater’s signature board! This game is extremely simple to learn, and insanely arduous to master. The simple tricks are easy to execute on first try, while some of the complex grinding combos can take weeks of practice to master. The graphics are very realistic, and the music is *real* alternative music. The several modes of play kept me playing for hours at a time, and the two-player capability is great fun. If you love skateboarding, if your not a fan of skateboarding (like me), even if you *hate* skateboarding, this game is for all of you.
