Toy Commander – a classic game from where I’m playing – this game is one of the best from makers No Cliché, the game is so original and well done, but has its faults – like most games, but its one of the most fun 4 player games around, although the main feature is the excellent single player mode! Single Player – you are the commander of toys, a child’s toys, so don’t get too excited now, so you’ll control mini helicopters, cars, toy tanks, planes and boats – in order to complete the mission told to you in the mission briefing! The gameplay is really good, with some tricky tasks and bosses, but it’s unlike anything I’ve played before. The visuals are pretty good too – this was one of the first ‘wave’ of Dreamcast titles, and it still looks good by the day’s standard. Multiplayer games are enhanced by completing the single player mode – the more in one player you do, the more rooms you unlock for the 4 player shoot/fly ‘em ups that will take place in the lounge, kitchen, dining room, kids bedroom and so on. It’s hard to see your toy in the multi player modes, so make sure you play on a decent Television! Plus points: Great gaming, original and stands out from the crowd! Graphics are top notch, very well done! Great fun game! Price! Downsides: Hard to find now, Hard to see what you’re trying to control in the multiplayer games, you need a big television: aim: destroy opponents! Controls are slightly tricky. Overall a decent game 4 stars, very good and worth your cash, good!

Toy Commander looks deceptively like a shallow game aimed at kids. The storyline is that the bad toys are revolting against their owner, who plays too hard with them. Taking control of the good toys, you have to stop their bad ways, while trying to solve other household chores such as boiling an egg along the way! The game gives you control of different vehicles as you progress, starting from miniture bi-planes and tanks to trucks and cars. Each vehicle has strengths and weaknesses and can enable you to complete the different tasks set in each level. The tank can shoot projectiles, while the helicoptor can pick up items and deposit them somewhere else. There are some really nice touches in the game, a cat wonders around in the kitchen during the first level and shooting it will make it run away very quickly! You can even go up walls by using the various ramps littered around the rooms. The two player game is fantastic, allowing you to use vehicles from the levels you've been through in a race to fight off the other player and make them explode. It's great fun to play with four players, all using different vehicles, and can get very hectic at times. Graphically this game shines, it adds a great amount of detail to the oversized surroundings and it's always easy to see what's going on, although the camera does choose odd angles at times when you're in the planes. Sound is fair, but nothing spectacular, just the engine sounds and some odd spot effects. The one thing that suprises most people about this game though is the difficulty level. It is a very hard game once you get into the later levels and some tasks take ages to figure out, only to see that you've spent too much time trying to complete them. Still, it will have you coming back time and again to complete the tasks and win the day against the evil toys. A great game and fun to play, especially now you can buy it so cheaply.

One of the most original games that I have come across for the Dreamcast. You take command of a variety of toys ranging from tanks to sports cars and pick-up trucks to spitfires. You use these 70+ toys in 50+ action packed missions of searching shooting and squishing. There are at the beginning 4 weapons to choose from but these ones change into more powerful ones. Work your way around the giant house to complete the weird tasks like one of the demo ones: Land on the table, drop 2 sugar lumps in the coffee and find the chocolate bar. Sounds simple? Try it for yourself. As one of the most original game this is a must. Fairly cheap to get but its not cheap in quality. A must have game for all toy and vehicle lovers. All ages (3 - 99) will be on this game most of the time that they are not asleep (if you do go to sleep)! Give your Dreamcast a rest occasionally!

Toy commander is a great game combining a mixture of styles into one game. Despite the title this is not a game just for kids it is a great game for everyone. In the racing option you control a car and race around a toy track. In the adventure option you control a aeroplane to start with but there are other vehicles later on and you have to go round completing missions in order to advance. The graphics are reasonably good and the sound is also good but this is a really playable game with quite good lastability. This is an adventure game but is also a racing game, it is quite simple to pick up and play but the missions do get harder as you go along. In the adventure option you control a toy aeroplane and fly around a kitchen and then fly into rooms. In the racing option you just race around a track in an attempt to win. This is a good game and even better for kids but will suit all ages

Toy Commander does exactly what it says on the in! Your are a commander in control of many toy tanx and planes and the aim of the game is to complete the levels to progress through the house. This is a very good, clever idea and I think that it works brilliantly well. The levels are not to hard, you can complete the game in a weekend, but the graphics are amazing and the multiplayer is really fun too. If your looking for a different game then try toy commander, I promise you that you will like it!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Toy Commander is a real oddity of a game, the bright exterior and the games title suggests that the game is typically kiddie fair, best deserving to rot next to the dreadful Army Men games. A breif play will throughly tell you that this *isn't* a kiddie game - it's way too tough for that. The basic premise of the game is that an evil toy - the Toy Commander - has taken over your house with the help of his Generals. With the toys which remain faithful to you, you need to go through each each area of the house completing missions to go on. The house is split into several areas (the kitchen, bedrooms, garage, etc), which each area of the house having seven missions. To begin with the first two missions of the Kitchen are available. Completing one of these missions will open up another two missions, whilst completing another mission will open another two. Completing three missions will allow you to go on to the next area. The seventh mission of each stage is a special boss area. To get this available, you need to finish four of that areas missions within an extremely tight time-limit. However, by beating a boss they will become avail to you to use for the final battle with the Toy Commander. The missions are varied and often fairly clever. For each mission you get a selection of vehicles, from Planes and helicopters, to tanks and jeeps, to troop transports. Each vehicle has it's obvious advantages and disadvantages, and typically you'll have to use all the vehicles at your disposal to help you defeat the stage. The mission objectives are typically varied. The obvious 'destroy' type missions are suprisingly few and far between. More common are transportation missions, basically getting to one point and moving something elsewhere to achieve some objective. This could be anything from recusing a scientist from an enemy stronghold, to collecting water to put out fires, to getting a doll to the trainstation in time
for his date!! Of course, these missions do tend to also include a lot of destruction as well. Also fairly common, and hugely frustrating at times, are Racing stages - taking your vehicle around a course at high speed trying to to finish last. These are typically very, very tricky, even more so if your trying to beat the boss time. By far the cleverest mission type are the troop movement missions. In these you get a handfull of plastic troopers and a transport vehicle. Because the transpot vehicle as no weapons of it's own, you are required to move your plastic guys to spots where they can take out the various badguys and obsticals. But the men are very fragile, so you have to find good sniper spots to place your troops in order for them not to get hit. Of course, your transpot vehicle is also prone to being blown up, so you can't just barge through. As mentioned earlier, this game is very tough. The difficulty curve is very steep, it gets very hard very quickly. Sheer determination (and dare I say, addiction) is all what will get you through certain areas. Certainly, if you can keep playing through the opening levels it will become complusive, the desire to beat enough boss times in an area to get the last stage available is immense. The visuals for this game are good, with everything being about as detailed as you would expect to find on a Dreamcast. The rooms, whilst small in size compared to a stage on, say, Sonic, are very detailed with plenty of clever touches. The sound, however, is pretty non-descript. The music is bland. The controls are pretty sound, using the analog stick for direction and the triggers for back and forward movement. The icing on the cake is a four player battle mode, which allows you to select from a huge selection of vehicles and any of the rooms you've opened. The vehicles are suprising well balanced (a plane isn't really better than a jeep if you know what you're doing),
but it can be hard to play initially, targetting proving to be very tricky. In all, this is a suprising entertaining little game, inventive throughout and well crafted. The difficulty, however, is pretty harsh, so I recommend either renting it to try before spending your money on a copy, or try and find a cheap or second hand copy.

My son thinks this game is absolutely minted! The graphics are skill, the sound is skill, the controls are skill the only bad thing is that the levels eventually run out! It keeps him occupied and while the first set of levels is blasting everything in sight it may seem a bit violent, but the later levels are all about stopping toys from being hurt and rescuing them. I like playing the game because on the first levels there is a sleeping cat in a basket, so I fire pencils and rubbers at it and it wakes up, screams and runs around the kitchen! Anyway here are some cheats. Pause the game and press: Better Weapons=hold down the left trigger and press X A Y B A X. All Rooms=hold down the left trigger and press A Y X B Y X. 99 super weapons=hold down the left triggr and press A B X Y B A. Toy Fixed=hold down the left trigger and press A X B Y A Y. If they work you will hear a tone.

This game is extremely addictive and the difficulty is just right! I agree u may find some mission easy but I'm sure you'll come across others, which take time to do. The idea of having a time to beat makes the maps last longer too as some are hard to beat. The bosses aren't exceptionally difficult like on some games either. The idea on some missions is very humorous such as a Godzilla type one and so forth. Unfortunately, the controls can sometimes be too sensitive (especially in helicopters) and getting to where u want takes that bit longer. The multiplayer is great fun with your mates, we have wasted many hours playing that instead of revising at uni! :) All I can say is, "get it!" you'll love!

The title and childish graphics may put some people off buying this game but don't be fooled by this. This game is sooooo much fun to play! There are loads of different vehicles in the game like planes and tanks. It squite a difficult game too. There are many different challenges and you will use different vehicles for each challenge. You will need a lot of skill to complete the challenges. This is a great game for all ages.

I don't play on the DC, but my husband does and when he first got the machine about 9 months ago this was his favorite game. Starts of you're in charge of various toy vehicles in different rooms of the house, each time you complete a level you gain a new room, and each room gives you a set vehicle or vehicles. You start in the kitchen with, if my memory serves me right, a tank of sorts and a plane. You have to collect power ups/ missiles (in the guise of pencils/erasers etc. ) and extra fuel and repairs. Each room has a mission: escort the paper birds(!), race other planes and get home first, transport toy soldiers from one location to another, and all the while you are being shot at by a enemy toys, tanks, soldiers and the like. This game aint just for kids either, it's serious good fun, even to watch, and I recommend it!

Toy Commander boasts incredible, smooth graphics and a solid storyline and situation. You are a child whose toys are called in to war against a large, mechancial bear thing. However, the game is clearly aimed at a young audience, and the controls can seem quite complicated to children and take them a while to get used to. The good points are the way you advance through rooms of a house and the varied weapons and vehicles you can control. Overall, a good game that could have been made easier for the younger players.

This has been one of the few games to inspire me from sega, and it took me by suprise how good it was. It took me ages to complete due to the amount of levels and variety in the game, at times the game can be frustrating but you cant help but go back for more- and develop your skills. A really rewarding game, one of few excellent games for the Dreamcast! And there a four player battle mode, which is also quite good- as it has different modes of play.
