There are so many racing games availible that sometimes it boggles the mind as to why some companies continue to churn these games out, I alsways feel like they should just see if it's going to be as good as the top one or two games in the genre and if not then just scrap it. I kinda feel this way about Vanishing Point, I don't hate the game by any means and it's far from a bad game but I just don't see why people should fork out so much money for a racing game when theres games like Gran Turismo already out there.
Anyway on with the game, The graphics in this racer are pretty impressive, replays look good and the detail on the cars and courses are all very nice to look at. Plus there is licensed cars like Ford which is a nice touch.
Gameplay is good, simple but good, not too different from any rally game you'd play in an Arcade, VP has adopted the traditional style and it does work pretty well for it.
What VP does that's slightly different from otehr racers is that instead of trying to overtake other cars to win races, the point of your race is actually to beat times that are already decided, a novel and original idea I guess.
With over 30 cars and 12 courses to play on this is a decent racer with plenty to offer , still not Gran Turismo but a good attempt nonetheless.
Vanishing Point is Acclaim's new arcade racing game for the PlayStation. This game boasts highly advanced vehicle dynamics, 3D graphics, stunt-based driving modes, lethal opponent AI, jumps, barrel rolls, and a bunch of real-life cherry automobiles from the likes of BMW, Lotus, Ford, and many more! Plus, it's completely multiplayer!
