First of all, I have to tell you that this is a "love it or hate it" game. The 2D cell shaded graphics look really unique and beautiful in my opinion, but I am sure that a lot of people will hate them. Even if you don't like them, it is still worth giving the game a try because the gameplay is absolutely unique and so much fun! The premise of the game is that your character is sucked into a superhero's world where he gradually gains his powers and has to beat up enemiess in order to progress. There is also a puzzle element - for example, you may have to light a torch to progress. This is done by speeding up your punches until your fists catch fire and then punching the torch! The use of puzzles like this mean that the game never descends into a monotonous slog as you beat up dozens of enemies who charge at you stupidly. There are also plenty of different bad guys and bosses which ensures variety and that you have to learn new ways of defeating them.
Viewtiful Joe is a super hero with all the confidence, punch and style of a million-dollar action-hero caught in the world of a Hollywood movie. Joe also has the finesse to perform special techniques to slow down or speed up the action.
