There is something insanely satisfying about nuking your best friend or pushing them off a cliff edge. I am not talking about real life, that would make me a raging loony. I am talking about in the world of gameplaying. Worms has proved a saviour in those achingly dull moments when me and my friends have had bored moments. I have played on the PC and also on the gameboy versions, both provide enjoyable gameplay.
Worms is a strategy game, where you take turns to eliminate the other player's team. Each player starts with a small team of worms and an assortment of weapons. You have a time limit to seek out and destroy or injure the opponent's worms. The ways and means you can do this are hilarious. I like the casual pushing off a ledge or the airstrikes, where missiles launch and scatter all over the place. This often causes worms to fly everywhere and if you land in the ocean, you're a gonner!
The graphics are bright and breezy here and translate well with good detailing and excellent landscapes. Seeing what you are doing is a slight downside, hard of seeing might struggle with some of the smaller features here. Controlling worms is tricky at first but comes with practice and thus makes the gameplay more rewarding in the longterm.
The soundtrack is upbeat and cool and the overall look of the game is spot on. If I could change anything, I would probably add even more weapons or weapons that you can build and design yourself. To play two player, you simply swap the console after your turn, which saves on buying extra console parts.
The game cost me a few quid online when I bought it and you can pick it up for a few pounds in games shops and online. Recommended for dull afternoons.
"Worms Armageddon" is a video game released for the Gameboy Color console in 2000 by Infogrames. It is a strategy game based on the long standing "Worms" game series. The ESRB panel in the United States rated this video game as "E" which deemed it suitable for all ages. There is both a single and multiplayer mode, with multiplayer play not requiring an optional game-link cable but simply sharing the console with the second player.
The story is based on two teams of earthworms who do battle in attempts to eliminate the opposing force. The game has remained somewhat comparable throughout its lifecycle but "Armageddon" continues to keep the series fresh by implementing a wide array of humorous weapons which the player can equip his or her worms with; an example of this being a skunk which can be deployed near enemy worms to release a poison gas.
Gameplay is turn based and is presented as a wide open area for exploration, or "browsing", and play. Most features on the map are able to be destroyed by projectiles and other weapons which adds a sense of strategy, as should a worm fall "off of" the playing area then that would signal an elimination. The player begins by customizing a set a four worms with different weapons, power-ups and other designations which are then randomly placed on the map. There is some element of difficulty to Armageddon with the player being required to aim a small crosshair using the arrow keys and further consider enemy positioning and environmental factors, such as wind, which can all be detrimental to a "perfect shot" and this leads to a sense of requiring a longer learning curve for becoming more proficient in playing this game.
Visually, Armageddon is a very pleasing two dimensional title and makes great use of a wide colour palette. There are various cartoon-like playing fields to choose from and each feature excellent graphical detailing. The sound track on the other hand comes across as something which could become repetitive, as the main audio sample is something along the lines of techno music which I don't quite find suitable for the generally slow and methodical gameplay which "Worms" is known for.
Ovreall, Worms Armageddon seems to be an excellent title which compliments the rest of the series well. As with most games of this turn based nature, though, there is more joy to be experienced in a second player mode but does remain enjoyable as a single player game.
i got this title for my birthday and on the first play i was amazed at how good it was. the grafics were brilliant, the gameplay was there and it seemed every bit as good as the pc version. but then, after all the initial hype of getting a new game etc... i realised that it got quite boring after a while. the weapons were severly limited and it didnt have the fun of the original worms game. overall it still is a good game as it is on the gameboy and not the playstation or pc but it doesnt last and the fun is just not there....

Worms must be the most simplistic yet most addictive game ever to grace the computer market. However it is still one of the most entertaining and most satisfying games I have ever played, but what is there in this third installment of the hugely popular turn based game, that isn't in the others? Well first off, Team 17 have added a whole heap of new weapons, that you can play with including such beauties as atomic bombs, earthquakes, sheep strikes, flame throwers and the lovely holy hand grenade, just to name a few. You also have the option to have a go at at 30 mission based single player games where each time you are put in a situation (usually when you only have a few worms against about 8 of the computer's!) where you have to capture secret weapons, knock out one important worm or just annihilate your opponent etc...etc... Even though the single player option is a bit tricky it's not likely to keep any one entertained for long! The developers have also incorporated a re-designed and much easier way to access internet play, so now you can open a can of whoop-ass on your mates over the net. The old multiplayer deathmatch is of course still in there and now you can play that single-player earning ranks for your performance. Again this is a nice touch but worms was never destined to be a single-player game and unless Team 17 come up with something special it never will! -------------------------------------------- In all honesty there is not much here then was in Worms 2, but die-hard worms fans will appreciate the small changes that were missing from Worms 2. This will also appeal to those who have never played (If that's you...sort yourself out!!) Worms or just could never be bothered to buy Worms 1 or 2. If you already own Worms 2, don't bother but if you want a Worms game, this is a good choice because it's more of a "Ultimate Worms 2 Pack" then a full new game. However which way you look at it, it
s still one of the most addictive and niftiest games around! --------------------------------------------
this is a disapionting game i liked the playstation version a lot but this one you can hardly see the worms and the bombs are too small and you cannot aim them very well.the coulor makes it a lot better than the last one because the stages like the moon and beaches are quite good though.the sound is good because the worms say things when they get hit like, i'll get you, which is good for the gameboy.it is better in when you play four player in teams because the game lasts longer and you can hide and blowtorch in the bigger areas.there are lots of good weapons like banna bombs and sheep which do loads of damage.
