WWF Smackdown, Beat Your Opponents Until Bruising...!!!

      Smack down ...
My favorite game of the past until now. With the advantages of control faster than other wrestling games that tend to slow control...
But not for the smack down. With game play that is simple but stunning, you are pampered with a player who is up to date, including a new wrestler in WWF as Dudley Boys, also do not miss John Chyna (this is my favorite), Undertaker, Kane, X-Pac, Triple H, The Rock (famous as a Hollywood actress), Val Venis, the Hardy Boys, and many more.
What''''s interesting about this game, there is a scene where you force your opponent to give up on the microphone saying that you bring to him. The game ends when one player runs out of blood or if the opponent runs out of time. There are a variety of backgrounds in this game, so you will not get bored; its background includes the parking lot, the entrance, and also the boiler room. When you win, you will get new players such as Ivory and Prince Albert. For play station games, WWF Smack down looks quite stunning. With animation and frame rate exactly, makes this game so realistic. Like when a player is struck, then the players will face looked bruised. Very fantastic…

A must play for anyone interesting in Wrestling video games

Before the Smackdown series, wrestling games had been quite complicated, with long button sequences needed to perform even some simple moves. The Smackdown series changed all of that, making the controls much simpler, making the game much friendlier, as you could just pick up and play without having to consult the moves list every 30 seconds.
The game was defiantly one of the best wrestling games of its time, with a fairly large roster for the team (of almost 40 playable characters), plenty of different match types, a create a wrestler section, as well as a season mode.
Compared to the new games in WWE's video game series, the graphics are nothing special; the characters are a bit blocky, the faces don't look very realistic, there is no commentary during matches, instead a soundtrack is played, and the wrestlers are not shown making an entrance down a ramp, instead just walking in front of their Titantron video. However, at the time of release this was miles ahead of WWE's previous game.
Characters move more fluently, and move like people. The gameplay is quick and arcade like, and each character has their own unique set of moves, all of which correspond well to their real life counterparts of the era.
The Create a wrestler section is basic, but works well. You are allowed to select a head, upper body and lower body for your character. You can alter the skin colour, weight and height before giving them their own custom set of moves. This allows you to create a variety of your own creations, as well as making wrestlers not in the game.
This game was the game that revolutionised wrestling video games, and launched the Smackdown Series, which ran for 11 years (with the new WWE 12 game using the same style). While the graphics may be out-dated and the new games can do so many more complex things better, this game is still defiantly worth a play, if only to experience the game that started it all.

Other than dodgy CAW it is very good

Smackdown came around at a time when the wrestling game was becoming quite stale, and I had myself become quite fed up with Acclaim's overly complex series of WWF games that required you to press about 8 buttons just to perform a dropkick! THQ have reinvented the wrestling game with a more accessible arcade-like style that works while introducing a few modes gamers haven't seen before.

The game is more comprehensive than any PS1 wrestling title that preceded it; forget WCW Nitro and Thunder. Smackdown not only boasts great gameplay, but the breadth and depth of the modes is equally impressive; there is now a Season mode, where you fight through the weeks of TV and PPV with the hope of winning the title of your choice. Some storyline elements are thrown in for good measure too, although these didn't really truly evolve until the later sequels. What I really loved about it at the time was how they had turned wrestling into almost an RPG, with your wrestler having stats and being able to determine their disposition and loyalties. Also there are nice touches like the ability now to fight backstage in a surprisingly large variety of areas.

There are a few gripes, though: the lack of commentary is very noticeable, and Create-A-Wrestler is nowhere near as comprehensive as it should be, which is surprising given how versatile and innovative the game is in most other departments. Nevertheless, this was without a doubt, despite what some N64 fanboys might say, the best wrestling game at the time of its release, with its superb graphics (again, for the time) and animation, as well as its unique ability to fight backstage and a deep Career mode.

      fantasic turning point in history

This game was the one that changed the way wrestling games are made for ever. The frist game that had a realy proper story line to it which is still fun to play now (i played it last week) the graphics dont hold up to todays high standards on wrestling games however the game itself is still cool. The ranking system in which they use i realy wish they would use on modern games as it is one of my favs from the smackdown games. Before this game we wasnt sued to story lines and all the great caracters that are in the games now. A real turning point in games with this one and this defo a game that earns high ratings.Could you play it nowadays only if you havnt got a modern computer. if you have a modern computer you dont want to be buying this game however if you havnt or are dealing with younger children this game has everything you could ever want. Another market this could appeal to has to be the people who grown up playing this game like myself i 100% loved playing the game again and im sure you will to if you havnt played it for a long time. Is easy to get hold of on ebay and comes very cheap think i got mine from amazon for 1-50.

A great WWF game and amazing at the time

Up until this point Wrestling games were complete parallel universe from each other across platforms. On the N64 the WWF games were superb, they looked excellent and with AKI they had the best control system known to the genre. On the PSX the WWF games were selling great but in truth they weren't that hot, sure they looked wonderful but the controls that Acclaim were putting out were the old Streetfighter combos and they just didn't sit right with a wrestling game.

So when the Smackdown series started THQ took the game by the scruff of the neck and changed the control system entirley , what used to need a back back square , would simply need O+up ., much easier and much more fun thus taking the memorizing of moves right out of the equation.

The grpahics reamained as impressive as the previous PSX games with much better animations for all the moves. Plus with a guge roster of all the current superstars you could be seen dropping the Peoples Elbow as the Rock or doing the Worm as Scotty Too Hotty. Everyone from Austin to The Undertaker and everyone in between is here.

The game is presented beautifully with great theme music and videos, and generally is a great presentation of the way a WWF show looked at the time. This game was a revelation at the time for Playstation fans and although it's been surpassed since It's stil a good looking game.

      • "10 minute fun bursts"

WWF smackdown is a weird game. There will be a LOT who dont like it, but many more will love it. Note- if you are not a wrestling fan you will not know what half the moves I describe in some sections are. Explaining them here would take forever. Think of this as an added *mystery* factor which hionestly adds an element of exploration about the game. Which is a good thing, just bear with me. Actual fighting Now this is addictive. There are a variety of superstars, each able to perform four moves (or two for more irregular positions) at each point. They can also do the odd reversal. The main variety of ways to attack your oppenonet are less powerful but easy to hit and knock opponent down well stirking attacks, that is punches and kicks. But most of your damage is down by grapples, the "moves" if you put it that way. These include suplexes, throws and arm wrenchs and the like. You can make an opponent "groggy" by lifting him up after youve knocked him down. But you cant do it too early on in a match, or hell just reverse it. You can perform the latter when the opponent is groggy, to have more extravagant moves like over-the-top suplexes, and general bric-a-brac like a less powerful stunner, the rock bottom, jacknife powerbomb....... etc You can perform moves in a very similair fashion, just with slightly different options when the opponent is in the turnbuckle, running at you, you are running towards him and when he is on the ground. This is all similair to any other position, just you dont have the added option of having a groogy opponent. You can also do top-rope moves, by climbing the turnbuckle, (this is done v.quickly for lower damage moves, not like the big time ones in attitude) and executing a move. The moves to a standing opponent are weak, but some characters have very strong moves for when an opponent is on the floor and you are on the top tope such as moonsaults and frog splashes. Each superstar
also has a very over-the-top type move called a finisher. These are very strong moves like swanton bombs (jumping of the top rope and doing a somersault before landing on your opponent) the pedigree, olympic slam and so on. Create a Wrestler This is the best mode, and it makes a real difference. choosing body parts is simple enough, but choosing the moves you want takes awhile and is GREAT fun, you really do experiment with the different stats to make the player YOU want. The first game you do it in really makes you feel like God! Season and exhibition- the modes This is where you do your playing. Season is a bit crap really, you skip all the matches all the coms are in and you occasioually after some skipping end up with your match. Pretty boring really, no story at all. exhibition- you choose what match you want. a great variety of matches, from the royal rumble where you throw a constant array of competitors over the top rope, to normal single and cage matches. the special matches are: harcore, special guest referee, cage, royal rumble and ladder. for anyones whos ever watched wrestling this is all self explanitory. This is where you do most playing, and can spend awhile, but overall limited time there. Whilst all matches have much replay value and near infinite possibilities: once you get bored of them thats it. But multiplayer is a blast. This is a very good multiplayer/5 minute fun type game, with the create-a-wrestler mode as a bonus. With it available for about £10-15, it is well worth it.

I have WWF smackdown on my playstation. I played it a lot when I got it for Christmas as a present having especially asked for it having read a review in a magazine that praised it a lot. However, now I have become quite bored of it! It gets so tedious just hitting people around the ring that I don't think they should have made it so uninteresting. There are some nice special feature and cool characters, but they should have more things that you can do! They should have more strange characters and more special moves. The characters should have more freedom to move out of the ring. I think they should be able to hit people in the crowd! Because that would be very funny. The graphics are good, and the game play is also commendable but the game just loses its appeal. This may be applicable to all wrestling games, but as this is the first one I have for my console I cannot really compare it. IT is still an enjoyable game and I would like to play another but with a bit more variety.

          • "better sequels"

This is a very good introduction to wrestling games that i enjoyed playing every day untill i got the sequel: Smackdown 2, Know your role. The game is very good and interesring, the controls are easy to master and it has A LOT of playability. A lot of the characters look like the real life people but there are some e.g. The Rock that close up dont look at all like the real life characters. A good range of matches to do aswell but there are so many more match types to have on the sequel. The mutiplayer games are great fun allowing your mates to come round and play with you (as long as you have a multi tap). Also the characters are a bit outdated now as some people no longer work for the WWF and many more have joined since the making of this game, but thats the trouble with wrestling games: they are amazing but go out of date very quickly. All in all a good game, which i thoroughly enjoyed. Steve

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

At the time when WWF Smackdown was set to be released I was quite excited and looking forward to it. Having loved WWF Attitude, I was rather hoping a superb game was to be released. I bought the game at the recommendation of a few friends and at the recomendations of some writers who had reviewed it in magazine articles. It had been spoken of as a superb game which was extremely entertaining to play. This made me decide to buy the game. Having played the game inside out, I find it well and truly over-hyped. In my views it was overhyped and that spoiled what was a decent game but was made to look outstanding so expectations were high. For those who are not familiar to the game, it is basically a wrestling game. One of the worst things about the game is the music. I was with the commentary and expected there to be more of it, like in WWF Attitude where the commentary made part of the game. Instead, Smackdown has opted for some dull, repetitive music that repeats itself continuously. The most important point about a game is its’ enjoyability and the fun it provides. WWF Smackdown is faster in terms of both game speed and its far too easy. The ease of play becomes makes the game extremely boring when you win and win forever. Smackdown is not much of a challenge and within a few days I was already bored with it! In Attitude there is also a season mode which at first is enjoyable but rather like the rest of the game becomes dull and tedious after a short while. Having played the game, I would advise you to stay clear from it as it is way overrated and when you finally get the game you expect lots but receive nothing. In my opinion my money could have been spent elesewhere at a better place.

I have ahd this game for 2 years now, and never put it down. I cant afford anything more than a Playstation, but I realise this is more than alot a people can, and therefore appreciate it. Smackdown is probably the best sports game on PSX. Features Over 30 WWF superstars - All your favs Characters scaled by height and weight - Great feature Wrestlers you can customize - Make up a bloater, or Mr.Muscle TV-style interviews and backstage footage NEW CHARACHTERS Road Dogg, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Paul Bearer, and Chyna Features Over 30 WWF superstars Characters scaled by height and weight Wrestlers you can customize TV-style interviews and backstage footage Road Dogg, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Paul Bearer, and Chyna WWF Smackdown enters the wrestling game ring with plenty of features that should bump up the testosterone levels of virtual grappling fans. Endorsed by the granddaddy of celebrity wrestling leagues, this game boasts an impressive cast of over 30 World Wrestling Federation mega-stars, including The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Undertaker. Even WWF head honcho Vince McMahon returns to the ring, appropriately decked out in his signature spiffy designer suit. Each wrestler sports his (or her--fan-turned-wrestler Tori is a featured character) special moves, taunts and finishers. And unlike some of yesterday's wrestling games, WWF Smackdown's gameplay is fuelled by an impressive game engine, allowing for fluid character moves, realistic lighting and shadows, and cool effects. Go out and buy it if you want a good game for the Playstation. Hope yuo enjoyed reading my 1st op. Please leave a comment.

The game is filled with bagloads of modes, characters and other extras. Such wrestlers as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, Kane, The Undertaker, Edge, Christian and many, many more. If you were aprehensive about buying before, it's now on Platinum, even more reasons why you should buy this classy game.

Hey hey! my second opinion, and this time I'm venturing into the unknown world of computer games. WWF Smackdown! is a, well you guessed it, wrestling game for the Playstation, which I don't have, but I have played on this game. This game is great, simply because you can't beat on your friends in real life when they get on your nerves, but you can beat them down on this. You can take control of one of many WWF superstars and then proceed to start whippin' everyone in sight, best option for this is the Royal Rumble. All you do is select this and then throw them out of the ring as they come. As I mentioned, I'm not a Playstation owner, so I don't own this (well durr), so I can't take you through the options step by step. The graphics and gameplay are some of the best that the Playstation has to offer on this genre of game. The sound is also very good, all the sound from the punches to the entrance music of the wrestlers is great. Let me not forget the fun factor. This being my first opinion on computer games let me tell you, at the end of this and future computer game opinions I will give you my own heffmester fun factor, and you will be able to take this to the bank. The heffmester fun factor of this game is deffinately ten out of ten on the heffa scale. I'll be sure to post my thoughts on WWF Smackdown! 2 ? Know Your Role as soon as I have played it. Have a nice day!
