Advantages: very fun, Much replay value, 10 minute fun bursts
Disadvantages: you hate wrestling..., shallow, 10 minute fun bursts
WWF smackdown is a weird game. There will be a LOT who dont like it, but many more will love it. Note- if you are not a wrestling fan you will not know what half the moves I describe in some sections are. Explaining them here would take forever. Think of this as an added *mystery* factor which hionestly adds an element of exploration about the game. Which is a good thing, just bear with me.
Now this is addictive. There are a variety of superstars, each able to perform four moves (or two for more irregular positions) at each point. They can also do the odd reversal.
The main variety of ways to attack your oppenonet are less powerful but easy to hit and knock opponent down well stirking attacks, that is punches and kicks.
But most of your damage is down by grapples, the "moves" if you put it that way. These include suplexes, throws and arm wrenchs and the like.
You can make an opponent "groggy" by lifting him up after youve knocked him down. But you cant do it too early on in a match, or hell just reverse it. You can perform the latter when the opponent is groggy, to have more extravagant moves like over-the-top suplexes, and general bric-a-brac like a less powerful stunner, the rock bottom, jacknife powerbomb....... etc
You can perform moves in a very similair fashion, just with slightly different options when the opponent is in the turnbuckle, running at you, you are running towards him and when he is on the ground.
This is all similair to any other position, just you dont have the added option of having a groogy opponent.
You can also do top-rope moves, by climbing the turnbuckle, (this is done v.quickly for lower damage moves, not like the big time ones in attitude) and executing a move. The moves to a standing opponent are weak, but some characters have very strong moves for when an opponent is on the floor and you are on the top tope such as moonsaults and frog splashes.
also has a very over-the-top type move called a finisher. These are very strong moves like swanton bombs (jumping of the top rope and doing a somersault before landing on your opponent) the pedigree, olympic slam and so on.
Create a Wrestler
This is the best mode, and it makes a real difference. choosing body parts is simple enough, but choosing the moves you want takes awhile and is GREAT fun, you really do experiment with the different stats to make the player YOU want.
The first game you do it in really makes you feel like God!
Season and exhibition- the modes
This is where you do your playing. Season is a bit crap really, you skip all the matches all the coms are in and you occasioually after some skipping end up with your match. Pretty boring really, no story at all.
exhibition- you choose what match you want. a great variety of matches, from the royal rumble where you throw a constant array of competitors over the top rope, to normal single and cage matches.
the special matches are: harcore, special guest referee, cage, royal rumble and ladder. for anyones whos ever watched wrestling this is all self explanitory.
This is where you do most playing, and can spend awhile, but overall limited time there. Whilst all matches have much replay value and near infinite possibilities: once you get bored of them thats it. But multiplayer is a blast.
This is a very good multiplayer/5 minute fun type game, with the create-a-wrestler mode as a bonus. With it available for about £10-15, it is well worth it.
