The Dreamcast is something of a safe haven for arcade fantatics, with just about every type of game imaginable, from light gun shoot em ups, to a FISHING SIMULATOR, and even a cab sim, being on the platform. Zombie Revenge joins the lot as the requisite entry into the niche "zombie beat em up" genre, with you and a team of 80s action film character knock-offs travelling through a zombie-ridden city with the hope that the various beasties won't have you for tea. With an ever increasing array of weaponry, you will have to battle through numerous levels, and can get a friend to team up with you to take on the horde also. My main regret with the game is that it appears to be a fairly lazy port - they've ported it simply as a two-player beat em up, despite the fact that it clearly wouldn't have taken much effort to allow four players to compete together in the carnage. On the plus side, there's some rather impressive detail, both as it pertains to the general locations, and also the fact that many enemies can be thoroughly picked apart and even dismembered, the film fully earning its "Mature" rating. I also like that, unlike a lot of games, like Resident Evil where, if you run out of ammo, you're pretty much screwed, this game allows you to partake in hand to hand combat with enemies, meaning you can kill a few and by that time probably find something to start shooting away with before the next boss shows up (unless you're very, very unlucky!). I admire a game that doesn't have pretensions to be something it isn't, and that's Zombie Revenge throughout - it's a simple game about kicking zombie butt, and it succeeds thoroughly at that, with enough carnage and mayhem for you and a buddy to enjoy. Sadly, though, it's let down quite a bit by a lazy port that doesn't accomodate four players, as I expected when first playing it. Nevertheless, it's a fun, if disposable yarn.
Whilst it may seem an interesting title, and it is a very intelligent game, unfortunately Zombie Revenge plays and feels very messily, as you would expect - there is an awful of of blood... Think of the best Resident Evil game - probably Code Veronic or Nemesis, then you'll be left with the 'not quite as good' games in the series - possibly RE2 was the weakest of the lot, well Zombie Revenge is kind of a cross between Resident Evil 2, House of the Dead and an arcade style romp about. It IS fun, all you do is walk around killing Zombies basically - not many tasks to complete, it's not a scrolling slash 'em up, you actually walk through the game - it's fun in two player mode, but after a week or so, you'll be bored. Excellent sound, superb graphics and some lovely special effects - it's a very arcady game from Sega, all the Zombies are set out to kill you, obviously your mission is to not let that happen, by performing the obvious (no not run!), shooting, slashing and getting rid of them in general. Fight the big bosses at the end of a level, and progress further to reach your goal. It is boring though, the control the system is slightly dodgy, and at times the game is too dark to see what's going on. It's fun though, but it's an arcade game at heart really and so won't last you THAT long. 3 stars? 4 Stars? I'll have to go with 3, but it's worth buying for £9.99!!! Great, Jest
Zombie Revenge is an excellent game. It is like Streets of Rage, mixed with Resident Evil. Blasting zombies to bits with guns may sound fun, but it's even more fun when you are playing with one of your friends watching each others backs! The graphics and sound are great, and the chance for multiple paths adds more depth and replay value. The guns are very good looking, you will enjoy looking around for the next. The story is good, but in a game like this, story doesn't matter too much anyway. All in al if you are a fan of fighting games, RPG's, and especially adventure/action games, then this is a must for you.
this one is quite cool looking, i havent got the game but i think you can be one of 3 characters, who must clear the scrren of zombies and get to the other side before you time runs out! this sounds really fun to me, i love killing zombies and doing it to a time limmit will add to the exitement, you can pick up everything and smash it into a zombie, or you can do the normal shooting way(boring), but i would rather hit them with things i pick up of the floor! this game is cool, go and buy it, NOW!
I saw the demo movie of this game and tought to myself what a great looking game!!!All the mags rated it highly before its release and then it was released and the mag ratings started falling down!! Then my mate bought the game thinking that it couldnt b that bad since it looked good in the movie. So he bought it and we all couldnt wait to play on it and when we put the game in we noticed alot of problems with the game, the graphics arnt so great by DC standards, the controls arnt to hot either, the game is very hard and you seem to get poisoned by everythin, even Lasers ??? This game is so hard even on the easy setting that it isnt any fun to play. The easy setting on a game should be easy and the hard should be hard, this is a flaw in alot of games these days! Another thing in this game is the poor sound fx and music. This game is really boring in 1 player mode and not much better in 2 player mode.
When I first saw this game in a magazine I thought it was going to be great, then I played it in the arcade I thought it was ok but not wroth buying, then when one of my friends brought it i thought it was the wrost game ever. The graphics are shite the gameplay is terrible the zombies dont look real just big green blobs, really theres nothing good about it so I ask you dont ever buy this game. Or if you want to be bored out of your skull and take this game back to the shop by all means do then.
Do you like arcade games? Do you occasionally enjoy a real no-brainer shoot-em-up? If the answer to these two questions is "Yes", then say hello to Zombie Revenge on the Dreamcast, a direct port of Sega's popular Arcade game. If it's a "No", then get back to your nerdy flight sim. The objective here is simple. Kill zombies and lots of them. Boasting an impressive arsenal of weapons, you control your character (a choice of three) through each subsequent 3D level, despatching an endless stream of mutant flesh-eaters as you go. The zombies themselves take some killing (which is very unreasonable of them), with the flamethrower & large drill in particular making a nice job of removing various body parts. If you run out of bullets, then it's hand-to-hand combat time, which is not necessarily a bad thing against the majority of the wandering un-dead but can make things slightly tricky against the end of level bosses (who are usually big-un-ugly). The graphics are pretty good with some nice spot effects, though this is very much standard arcade fare. So Zombie Revenge's gameplay is a bit limited, it's a game which doesn't try to be anything else other than a straightforward gung-ho fighter. It's simple unadulterated fun (especially in two-player), designed for a quick blast and nothing else. Grab a few beers & invite your mates round – "there be some zombies need shootin'".
When i first got this game i was overjoyed. Afterall, I love games like streets of rage and this seemed to be of the same kinda of genre but with all the added power of the dreamcast, and it DOES use all of Dreamcasts power, the visuals are simply mind blowingly good. The sound and music is perfect to add to the tension of the game. There is loads of weaponary to be found in this game. You can use your fists to fight or find a flamethrower to set alight to every zombie in your path. This game is huge, it took me almost 50 hours to complete. But, there is one huge restriction to this games addictiveness and that is its repetitiveness. After a while you will realise that you are walking from room to room doing excactly the same thing which is in actual fact, smashing all buttons as hard and as quick as possible. Overall though I would be lieing if i said I dont love this game, however I reccommend renting this game before going out to bu as I think it might not appeal to everyone!.
Zombie Revenge is a loud, action-filled, arcade gore-fest that’s suprisingly shallow in its design and gameplay. It’s essentially "Resident Evil Arcade," and on that level, it almost works. It might be worth a rent for those casual gamers wanting that chance to impale a zombie on a giant hand-held drill, but polluting your Dreamcast with this game for too long would be a crime. Horror fans can wait for Resident Evil: Code Veronica, or just stick with the current crop of RE games of PlayStation and Nintendo 64, because there’s nothing surprising or scary in ZR. Seasoned action fans can find bigger and better arcade action on lesser platforms. Die Hard Arcade for Sega Saturn, Final Fight CD for Sega CD and Streets Of Rage 2 for Sega Genesis might be difficult to find nowadays, but they represent the best this genre has to offer. Despite the green blood, parents will find that the game earns its Mature rating. The violence is graphic and red blood can be accessed after finishing the game. There is also some adult language and overt sexuality.
