Ashes Tour in General

Newest Review: ... punch ups between fans, to dissolution of marriage between husbands and wives, the attention accorded to the Ashes regularly borders on insanity. Television networks worldwide are known to offer hundreds of millions of dollars in their attempts to secure the rights to an Ashes broadcast. Viewer audiences worldwide number in the hundreds of millions when these matches are broadcast on both television and cable. From the toss of the coin for the beginning of a match, to the post match player interviews, viewers are glued to the set and make sure not one moment of cricket history passes them by. Many of these fans can even recount the... more

Nothing contributes to the emotion of cricket fans worldwide more than a vigorously contested cricket series steeped in long tradition and history. The bi-annual Ashes cricket series, played between competing teams from England and Australia, is the most widely followed competition of its type, by both spectators and media alike. The Australian and English fans become totally immersed in the competition every two years. Many of these fans live and breathe Ashes cricket and pay very little attention to any other issue in their day-to-day lives. From physical punch ups between fans, to dissolution of marriage between husbands and wives, the attention accorded ...  Read the complete review

So its 3-0 to the men who eat veggiemite, made Neighbours and share their homeland with lots of Sheep and Red rocks. Yes, thats right. Australia wrapped up the ashes series against England in just 3 tests. Thats the mimimum they needed to win to take the Ashes back to Australia. Not that they are allowed out of the cabinet at MCC! In fact, everyone had high hopes for the Cricket this year after great winter performances. Little did they know that England would come a cropper against one of the strongest Australian sides ever. Lets look back at it so far. Test 1 ------ Australia win by a complete innings and 118 runs to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ashes Tour in General: Guide to England Excuses (533 words)

After just 11 days of cricket, Australia had retained the Ashes once again, Nasser Hussain had broken his finger AGAIN and Big Brother was over for another year. Well at least there was some relief. As the tabloids will probably be printing their 'RIP-The death of English Cricket' screaming headlines come September (when the series will be lost 5-0), I have decided to print the dooyoo guide to excuses to explain why England have unfortunatley lost and after barely a year of triumphs us cricket fans must come down to earth and regain 'oh dear we've lost again, whats on channel 5?' mood. 1) Australia are bloody good ...  Read the complete review

After getting totally hammered in both the 1st and 2nd Tests, England face the possibility of a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Aussies. Judging by what I have seen so far, this is more than possible! I held a lot of hope for this series after England had pulled off good wins both in Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the winter. I put the 2nd test defeat against Pakistan just before this series to one side, and even tried to ignore the way we were blown away in the one day tournament. Alas, I could not escape the way we were blown away by a truely complete Australian performance in the First Test, and again in the Second. Everything about the Australian ...  Read the complete review

Well where do I start on a somehwat disasterous start to the Ashes contest of 2001??? Only two matches into the series and it looks like it's going to be a whitewash...even the typical English weather seems reluctant to save us this time. To be fair though, Australia are an awesome squad, they have depth that England can only dream about, their pace attack is formidable and with Shayne Warne ever present it completes, what in my opinion, is the best bowling attack present in Test cricket today. But lets not stop there, even though Australia have lost quality batsmen in recent years through retirement (Boon for one) they seem to have an ...  Read the complete review
