Advantages: Great cricket, Great players, Great summer
Disadvantages: There playing the great cricket, the great players are thier, and the summer is disapearing faster than a packet fags in a council estate
Athers to Ashes I think even the most ebullient optimist though it would be hard work against the mighty old enemy.Man for man they are out of our league, let alone guts, power and ability the killer though is pure bloody minded nature of Aussie sporting prowess that makes them almost unbeatable. They never fair well against bent sub continent umpires and fare, and we are going to have to pay for the record breaking run. I predicted 3-1 to the Wallabies and two in the rugby. Although I did fancy Hewitt over big serve, small talent Goran at the tennis. Well his girlfriend of the time said that,I bet theres a few new ones now sniffing his wrist bands. Anyhow the omens were nailed to our coffin when the Aussie Sheila team trounced our underequipped girls in the recent women’s Ashes series. And I can’t see the guys getting of any lighter. Regardless of the hiding we are about o receive, we should remember that this is an exceptional side and 3-1 is not as bad as it sounds. We have an excellent coach in Fletcher and a great captain in Thorpe when he gets his rightful chance. Nasser Hussein is too dim and lethargic for me and his batting is pathetic and always has been. Anyone, who knows the technical nuances to the game, will know that he has more edges than Hampton court and only gets big scores if the catches are dropped. Thorpe on the field is setting fields and Alec Stewart is riling them from behind the stumps. Nasser just stands gormlessly at square leg thinking about his Telly Tubby books. On the N-Power test commercial when Steve Waugh calls him,”good day Nasser, were going to smash you in the n…Hussein took twenty two takes to hit the phone with the bat, apparently he dropped his wages packet to. Our strengths are in Mr Gough who is world class. Caddick at the other end on the right wicket, i.e. green and pot holed. Trescothicks wildcard entry to England along with the Yorkshire guts o
f Thorpe and Vaughn, are the backbones of the glories to come. Giles hasn’t spun a ball for three years and should be well down the queue behind Phill”the cat”Tuffnell, a match winner on English strips. Croft should be played over Giles if we are looking for a batter who can spin it. White and Cork haven’t recovered from knocks and were rushed back this summer. Hoggard has a Thorpe like calf problem. Our middle order is as fragile as the ice cap if you listen to those hippies propaganda man. Aussie are eleven Michael Schumachers at Silverstone with the iron nerve and foot pressed firmly on the metal. They are averaging over 4.5 runs an over in the tour matches and the one-day slaughter proved ideal preparation for the coming torrent. Like Schuey, they take the corners flat out whilst covering every technicality in their and the opponents chances. Expect a lap record and total domination this season by both parties. I know England don’t like the one day commercial stuff and would prefer to be pissing it up with the crowd that playing. But the Australians used the series to try out fields and players inpreparation for the coming disaster, why didn’t we do that Graveny and co. They seem to be three up before we get on the field through preparation and determination. Theres too many Cambridge types running the show at Lords, further triumphed by the return of Athers at the helm. The return of Ramprakash and the talk of Crawley, also redbrick types smells of desperation and their chances are as pale as their faces facing Gillespie and McGrath. At least the series will highlight just how delinquent the Pakistan fans were trying to spoil the cricket. Aussies may not be too bright, but there not spoiler’s .How do you get an Australian fans eyes to light up. Shine a torch in their ears.

- 16/07/01 You said our best choice of spinner would be Tufnell of Croft but what about Udal at Hampshire he is a great allrounder who can spin |
