Advantages: A chance to be with your family

Disadvantages: Too much commercialisation

Ever since I was little I enjoyed going down the streets and shops looking at all the decorations and festive lights that are hung along walls and rooftops. The joys of listening to chores sing my favourite Christmas songs.

However all this has changed over the past couple of years, as stores have tried to commercialised Christmas, and every year it seems to get earlier and earlier. I was horrified to see that in October that they were selling Christmas Cards and decorations.

I feel that people and stores have started to lose sight at what Christmas really is. I am not a religious person by far, however I feel that Christmas is a chance to spend with your family and loved ones, not seeing who has spent the most on the presents.

Christmas should be shared by everyone and it all should be about giving and not receiving. How many people can actually say that they are looking forward to seeing their family and not what presents that they are going to receive. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people are able to say this, as the shops have commercialised Christmas too much, and lost sight of what Christmas is really all about.

Christmas is a time to spend with your family and friends, and not wondering if you will get that bike you have always wanted. This year just sit back and relax and stop wondering about all the presents that you will get but start thinking about how you could make someone’s Christmas a bit better, for him or her.
