Advantages: Jokes, funny sections, e-cards, games
Disadvantages: gifts section very poor, recipes poor
Everyone is writing about Christmas gift ideas, wish lists, decorations etc What about Christmas related websites?? I have found a website that might get you into the festive mood. The website is called www.xmas.co.uk. Not only can you choose from a wide range of gifts and e-cards, the site is funny. There is a section called “Alternative Christmas”, and you can send in details about the worst Christmas presents you have received, and any funny Christmas stories. For instance here are a few of the highlights: “We thought that it would be funny to place a small banger inside the turkey. Unfortunately it was a bit more powerful than we expected and it blew the entire turkey to bits, and it even wasn’t in front of our friends!!!” “I got my doo-dah stuck in an elf’s mouth at the grotto at the local BHS! Oh did it hurt!” “About 13 years ago, my husband didn’t know what to get me for Christmas because I had gained some weight and I didn’t want new clothes, so instead he got me a padded toilet seat!! He thought that I would like it…like I already didn’t have enough padding on my rear! There been no more gifts like that!” GAMES Also on the site are a few on-line games such as Tic, Tac, Toe - which is noughts and crosses against the computer. Checkbox Invaders – which is similar to Space Invaders. Brainteaser – this is similar to Catchphrase as you have to guess the word or saying by the pictures and positions of words. E-CARDS If you haven’t got the time to post Christmas cards to faraway relatives and friends, why not send them an e-card. There are a small selection of Christmas cards that you can send via the website. FOOD AND DRINK You can find recipes of festive dishes sent in by others, and you also find out which places are good for eating out at Christm
as. Personally I thought this section was very poor, as there were only 1 or 2 entries, and the website didn’t display any of their own recipe ideas, which I would have expected. CHARITIES There is a little bit of information on the charity NSPCC. You can help the charity by purchasing Christmas cards via the website donated by the NSPCC, or alternatively you can help with their campaign by clicking on the link to their website. SANTA’S MAIL DEPOSIT The kids can send a letter to Santa via the website, and they will receive an email back from Santa himself (yeah right). There is also a handy diary telling the kids what Santa’s busy schedule is during the festive season, and a little story all about Santa. GIFT IDEAS Apparently there is supposed to be hundreds of gift ideas in this section. However, the only shops available are Freeman’s, and WH Smith, which I think is rather disappointing. If you like music, books and clothes you will be catered for, but that is about it. JOKES There are a selection of jokes that have been sent in by other users, some are quite funny. It does state that if you submit a joke, you need to keep the language clean as children obviously view the website. One section I did find funny was “20 ways to confuse Santa Claus”. Here are a couple of the quotes: - “Instead of milk and cookies, leave him a salad and a note explaining that he could stand to lose a few pounds.” “While he is in the house, go find his sleigh and write him a speeding ticket.” “While he is in the house, replace all his reindeers with exact replicas. Then wait and see what happens when he tries and gets them to fly.” I could go on and on about this website as it really cheered me up and got me into the festive mood. Have a look and see for yourself what you think, it
will certainly make you smile (hopefully).

- 17/11/00 I am in the process of checking it out, why not try claus.com as well. You are a cynic though, of course Santa replies in person and if he doesn't I'm sure it is one of the very senior elves! |
