That time of year again. Mam can we put the tree up Lucy has decorations up and Katie. Oh go on then ask your dad to get them out of the attic. Yeh! famous few lines at the start of the festive season and I bet they apply to most households.

You get the tree out and you forget how you put the decorations on it last year and which set of lights were working and which ones were hung in the window. I don't know about anyone else but I think even putting the trimmings up and decorating the tree is a major job expecially when the children keep pullilng everything out of the box and using it as earings and necklaces etc.

It took me a few days to complete the decorations this year, everytime I would put something up I would change my mind and eventually my husband got so annoyed with me that if I didn't get it right that time he would abandon the whole thing and I can't reach the celling as it is 10feet high. Eventually they were all put up but then there was the TREE!!! I have a white tree and I don't use tinsel just beads, little ornaments and some silver snowflakes. But coupled with the couloured lights and the fibre optic fairy it does look pretty, although I heave re-done it a few times since.

Once all the trimmings a in place and the tree is decorated it does make all the effort worth while, I don't know about anyone else but some mornings I wake up and I can smell Christmas in the air, and it sends shivers down my spine. To wake up on Christmas morning put all the lights on the tree and let the trimmings twinkle in the shadows of the lights, it sets the scene for the Children to come down and see what Santa has left them. The smell of the Turkey cooking, and the fresh coffee being made. To me this is all part of Christmas and although we moan every year, it is a tradition that will never leave my household and I hope it never does yours.!!

Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

Take my tip - don't bother with decorations OR pay someone else to put them up. Nichola - fancy coming to my house and doing the honours?

There are times it seems like too much hard work but I wouldn't be without all the trimmings!
