Advantages: Trees, Putting up decorations

Disadvantages: Too much lights, Shopping to early

We all love Christmas, and one of the best parts of Christmas is putting up the decorations. Every year my whole family will gather in the front room and we will all put the decorations up. We will start by rearranging the room so we can fit everything in and then we will put the tree up. Before this year we would put up the tree and put anything that was in the box on it, but this year we went for a new elegant, cool looking tree. Is the style of Christmas changing? Are we moving on to a different style of Christmas? I think we are, we as a country are going to (personally) and ‘American Christmas’ – lights outside and big trees, with two main colours or just one theme. This year I think everyone has gone mad, but is it just to keep up with modern trends? I hate all these big lights, cribs, and lit up Santa’s. They just don’t represent Christmas to me.

We would normally have everything on it from lights to little men, and Disney characters to wooden bells. But we have changed it to bubals, stars, and other little things like icicles and curled springs. The colours are good, only two colours, red and silver, which makes the tree look ‘Christmassy’ and special. We all pulled in this year and put them on the tree. One thing about bubals is that they don’t seem to come with string as so you have to tie them yourselves. Which was a good hours work. A big pain, something that has to be only done once (we can use them next year). So has Christmas got to the point where we can’t be seen with out big lights? What do you think?

I always remember Christmas as being a time to worship Jesus and giving and receiving presents, but know you have to put up big lights and go out shopping in the ‘Christmas rush’ just so you can say that you have shopped and done it all. It may be convenience but does it keep that Christmas spirit – going and shopping, seeing all the lights, hearing everyone els
e shopping and listening to the music. Sometimes it just feels like the Christmas Spirit has been lost. Does anyone feel the same? Please tell me what you all think?

I do know where you are coming from, but our biggest tree only just fits (we have 3 in the house) I just love seeing my niece's face when she looks at it all!

We have to put an armchair upstairs to get our tree in!
