Home made Christmas decorations .

I love making homemade Christmas decorations and during the many, many years I have worked with children I have made many. I fact I am frantically trying to get many decorations constructed at school at the moment. If your child brings home a decoration they have made at school please put it on your tree and reward your child with praise. A lot of effort on teachers and child?s part was put in to make that decoration just for you.

Some decorations that are easy and effective to make are Salt dough tree decorations
Ingredients
300g /10 ½ oz plain flour
300g/10 ½ oz salt
200ml /7fluid ounces water
1 teaspoonful of cooking oil

Put all ingredients in bowl and mix squeeze it together to make a ball of dough
Roll out dough and cut into Christmas shapes you can buy Christmas biscuit cutters or it is simple to cut a Christmas tree out of card and use that as a template or use circle cutters for baubles. When you have cut your shapes make a sm hole with a cocktail stick or something, so you can thread a cotton or ribbon through later to hang them on your tree. Cook for about 20 minutes at 180 c /350 f/ gas 4.
Then your child can paint them, a varnish gives a shine. You could always add food colouring to the mix to make them ready coloured.

A paper decoration or two, small bell, cracker, stocking shapes can be cut out of coloured card and decorated with glitter small pieces of shiny paper and a hole punched in the top for coloured thread /ribbon threaded through to hang from tree. These shapes can be done in pairs one cut half way down from top to centre, the other one half way up from bottom to centre, then the two slotted it to each other making it 3 d.

A little stocking can be made to hang on the tree.
Get a felt square and cut 2 identical sock shapes or 4 from it. Pair the stockings up and sew the sides and foot up leaving a hole
at the top of the stocking. The stocking can be decorated by sticking sequins on, or any other coloured scraps of felt which have been cut into a star or a flower or any other shape. You could put a wrapped sweet or 2 in the stocking if you have made it big enough.

I made those salt dough decorations at a youth club I used to work at, but after a few years they went soft again, I wonder why?
