England v Germany (17 June 19:45 BST)

Newest Review: ... unacceptable and shocking as far as i was concerned. The media built up the game between Germany as per usual and made this game out to be 'our final' whilst almost expecting to go out. At the end of the day the Germany result didn't really matter but to me it was the highlight of the tournament for England. Alan Shearer scored a trademark header from a good ball into the box from Beckham to seal the 1-0 victory against a disappointing German side. England as usual under performed and failed to even qualify for the second stage. Losing to Romania and Portugal was just unacceptable and shocking as far as i was concerned. Wasn't it fantastic when Shearer scored "THAT" goal, the nerves that were hanging in the air, wondering if we could hold on to a victory that would be talked about for many years to come. I am sure that all over the UK, wherever you were, whatever pub you were in at the time, when Shearer ducked to get that magical header, which sent the ball victoriously into the back of the net, there was not one person who remained seated. There could be cheers heard for miles around. As the game came to it's final stages, the Germans were giving it their all, every chance looking like it might wreck the admiration we were holding for each player ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review England v Germany (17 June 19:45 BST): Lousy vs Lousy - Hardly a win to be proud of? (134 words)

As the whole of Britain celebrated the final triumph against the Germans, have we asked ourselves whether it is a win to be proud of? There are some matches which you lose but you lose it fighting with style and know in your heart that you are as good as the other team, except for being a tad unlucky on that day. On the other hand, there are some matches which both teams are simply playing to decide who's the worse of the two. Enough said. Let's hope both England and Germany will be able to find their way back into international football again. Time to learn from other countries which are much better, like Holland, France (yes, ...  Read the complete review

Lets be realistic about this result - England were slightly the better of two very mediocre teams. They may get through against Romania (they should) but surely the Italians, Freanch or Dutch will send England home, if the hooligans don't do it before then. Without doubt the poorest German side ever, and England aren't much better under Kevin Keegan. The likes of Ince, Seaman and especially the Nevilles are not up to the job and England cannot compete with the top teams in Europe at the moment. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review England v Germany (17 June 19:45 BST): hardly a classic (95 words)

but this time, it was a case of the result meaning everything. when this game is looked back upon it will be mostly remembered through beer tinted spectacles, england won, thats what matters. simple as. beckhams distribution once again sublime, shearers header good enough, to beat the impressive kahn. i think seamans booted clearance left more to luck than judgement but who can deny it was deserved. as yet owen has still not impressed me, and if we are to impress in the latter stages then scholes must be given a less defensive role. ...  Read the complete review
