England v Romania (20 June 19:45 BST)Newest Review: ... could not keep a lead in two games the first against Portugal, that was fair enough as Portugal have class players which win matches. To loose aginst the Romanians with minutes to spare clearly shows that England have no compassion when it comes to CRUNCH TIME. The question is are England a footballing nation? We have a good league, why not a good international team? The answer is that because we have so many players in the English league is the reason we haev a good league! We are not a footballing nation! All we showed in this tournament is that we are hooligans! ... more |

In this match it quite clearly showed to me that England do not have the team work or the nerve to win! Unfortunately it was clear to see that England are not good enough. We certainly have some class players but some who are not up to the standard. With the exit of Shearer (what a sad way to go), it is properly time for a few others to go. This may be the last we see of Ince and Wise (and hopefully Seaman). The match was very poor for us and we were exceedingly lucky to be winning at half time. I though maybe now we could go on and play as we can but no. 2 minutes in and Martyn makes a major error and Romania are level. Romania always looked like scoring too. I truely do not understand why Heskey continues to play for England - at present he is a ... Read the complete review

England fans might well sit back and say that we were unlucky, and we were two minutes away from a quater final against Italy, but it doesn't really answer more worrying questions, such as; why are we unable to maintain posession and why do we look scared on the ball ? Any team that realistically thinks it has a chance of winning this tournament must be able to dominate posession, control the play both in terms of territory and tempo, and regrettably england don't look like a side capable of displaying this fundamental tactical awareness. Keegan should not lose his job over this defeat and early exit, because it was the players on the ... Read the complete review

Anyone who was unfortunate enough to watch England’s risible performance against Romania yesterday, I am sure will agree, that the best thing that could have happened to this hapless excuse for a football team, was to be sent back to Blighty, before we suffer any further embarassment. The Romanians looked stronger, more skilled, more determined and basically looked more like they wanted to win than us. We hardly got any possession in the second half, and when we did, elected to hoof it up field a la Wimbledon FC, testimony to the utter panic that seemed to permeate the squad. The sight of Linneker and his crew’s horrified faces after the game said it all, a ... Read the complete review

The difference between England and Romania is easily summed up... the romanian goalie fists the ball out to Dennis Wise, his first touch bounces the ball 5 yards away and any chance of a shot is lost, when Nigel Martyn does the same, the ball is collected on a sixpence by Munteanu who crashes in the equaliser. The simple fact is England cannot, pass, control or use a ball with any degree of skill, to the likes of Brazil and Portugal this is second nature and doesnt need to be worried about. And as for the England fans...dead easy.....GO HOME !!!! ... Read the complete review
