Advantages: Good value for money, something original

Disadvantages: none

Choosing a gift for Grandparents can be a pain in the neck. Well you can only buy so many tacky porcelain figurines from the pound shop cant you, and their house is crammed to the hilt with little dwarfs sitting on swings and large gaudy painted spoons for nanny to put her tea bag on??

The Grandma and Granddad mugs are taking over their kitchen cupboards, I must admit I stopped buying them a few years ago when I saw one of Granddads many mugs in his shed with screws in????..Upset me at the time but there again I was very young then.

Tins of short bread, boxes of Roses chocolates, Socks for Granddad, Slippers for Nanny, it is all so boring, I bet they discuss the night before a special occasion just what they expect to get and have a laugh before they clear the china cabinet of older gifts to put the new such useless bric a brac in. Does the clear out of the china cabinet go into the shed? I will have to check that one out.

Have you noticed how clever these old codgers are at pasting the smile on when they open their gifts? Years of practice I think!!!!

OK here is a new idea for you:-

Collect photos of all the family and do a collage with a nice photo of said Grand parents in the center, it is very easy to do on the computer but if you really want to go up market get a professional photographer to do it for you. Your Grand Parents will really appreciate a gift like this. Mine have now given it pride of place in the hall way.

A nice touch also is to find their favorite photo from when they were young, a special dinner and dance photo or even their wedding photo. Take it to a professional photographer if you are not into the photography programmes on your PC. It is not that expensive for a special gift. The photo can be turned into colour and it really makes a special gift.

I took an old black and white photo of my Grand Parents at a Christmas Ball when they were twenty odd years old to a photographer to b
e coloured in. I knew that Nanny?s dress was green and that she had bright red lipstick and nail varnish and that Grand dad was in black suit with black dickie bow she had often talked about it when the album came out and we were taken down memory lane, this was normally at Christmas.

The photographer coloured it in to perfection and framed it for thirty five pounds, he even managed to catch the colour of nannies ear rings she was ecstatic about that. The collage of the entire family cost seventy five pounds framed because obviously a lot more work had to go into that.
My Grand Parents actually cried when they received this gift.
Maybe they cried because they were so relieved that it wasn?t another silly dwarf sitting on a swing, hey lets be fair you can only fit so many of those little critters on your mantle piece.

Wow...strange category - great review though. We did the photograph collage for my step grandmother's birthday. My step family is huge so it was rather impressive...also impressive that we managed to not forget anyone! she loved it.
