Advantages: If you give a woman what she really wants - she may return the favour.
Disadvantages: none
Strange as it may seem most women don't want the latest state of the art domestic appliance (perhaps with the exception of one featured below), useful or 'fun' slippers, the latest popular book, or even their usual favourite perfume. Well they might - but they still want something else. They want you to show you care by being a bit romantic. Gorgeous things to put in handbag It may be true that the average handbag contains an assortment of paraphernalia including, keys, purse, tissues, half eaten sandwich, several chocolate wrappers, spare nappy, socks and knickers, book of the moment, and house brick but apart from these essentials most women like to include a few pretty things to make the rummaging into bag more enjoyable. Let her choose a new bag because that's a very personal choice but perhaps you could give a new handbag contents kit. Pay some attention to what she already has in the bag. Is the make-up bag past its sell by date? Find a gorgeous one to replace it - but keep to the same sort of size. There are some very pretty phone, address books and notepads around and pens. Key rings might seem boring but they can be gorgeous, the M&S Christmas catalogue has an example of a pretty one (pretty does NOT mean practical, funny or tacky). Other goodies to include could be Boots essential aromatherapy pulse point gel which comes in several flavours including sensual, a handbag mirror if she doesn?t use a powder compact or a pretty credit card holder. Keyword - Pretty. The bath experience Us girlies do enjoy pampering ourselves in the bath so don't forget the gorgeous smellies. Here you could just trot off to look at the hundreds of Lush opinions and make a selection from there. Whatever you get do try to personalise it a bit - either by making up your own special little collection suitably packaged or by including special extras such as some talc with a fluffy puff, a soft towel or bathrobe. Keywo
rd - Pampering. The totally out of character romantic gesture A poetry book. It does not really matter if she doesn't normally read poetry this is one of those presents where it really is the thought that counts. In the poetry section of any bookshop you will find quite a few anthologies of 'love' poems. I think the 'everyman' series do a couple of reasonable ones. Try and find a poem that relates to you both, put a gorgeous bookmark in the book to mark the place and write something wonderfully soppy in the front of the book. She will treasure it forever. Trust me. Keyword - Romantic. The gorgeous chocolates Sometimes I'm afraid I am just a bit disappointed when I discover the same old choccies in my present heap. It's not exactly that I don't like Thornton's year in year out but now and again I would like something very very special. You don't find the very, very special choices ready packed in a box you select them individually from a counter in a posh shop. Even if you can only afford a few it is the fact that you made the effort to specially select them for her that is important. (You can still buy the big box of favourites too though). You could make them more special by combining them with some other luxury nibbles, such as chocolate covered coffee beans, other favourites, and or drinks in a diy hamper. Keyword - Luxury. The underwear This is a bit of a tricky one. Most women would appreciate some gorgeous glamorous undies but most would prefer tasteful to tacky. You might like the scarlet woman look but this isn't always appropriate as a gift and let's face who exactly is the present for? There is also the problem of size. Bras, in particular do not come in standard sizes regardless of what it may say on the label. Actually finding a bra which fits nicely and is gorgeous and comfy is for many of us an impossible dream. In desperation I went to R
igby & Peller and go t fitted and have had perfect fitting bras ever since - but what was an added bonus is that I now have a far more flattering bra size than I would ever have dreamt. If you would really like to buy your lady some nice undies then may I suggest the following tactics. First tell her that you would like to buy her something special but don't want to get it wrong so either ask her to get fitted at a specialist shop. The upmarket shops have a far greater range of sizes (especially larger lady sizes) than the basic 36,a, b and c etc and they give the impression of glamour and romance as opposed to the tacky Ann Summer's type. These bras do not come cheap, many are around £50 but you do not have to buy from the shop. On the internet you can find quite a few underwear shops selling the top brands, such as Rigby & Peller, Warner, Gossard, etc. at a fraction of their shop prices and if you have the correct size for a particular make it will fit all you have to do is choose something nice. See brasplus.co.uk, bargains.co.uk or do a search on Google. Keyword - Tasteful. The piece de resistance Meet Zebra at her raunchiest. This whole opinion was inspired by a wicked piece of jewellery featured in November's Eve magazine. In a feature called 'just for you' was a picture of a rather chunky silver ring and the accompanying caption said: ;For many women the experience is diminished by the fact that the vibrator looks like something that's been hacked off a man,' says Julia Gash, specialist in erotic accessories, who believes the highest standards of design should apply to this vital domestic appliance. Hence the Ultime vibrator which looks a bit like a Henry Moore sculpture (smaller, thankfully). Or treat yourself to a sterling silver vibrating ring from www.myla.com - your own secret. In the interests of research, of course, I visited myla.com. I loved the designs and the other s
tuff but wow the prices were a bit high to say the least. So I then trotted off to gash.co.uk where the designs were not quite so appealing but the prices were far more accessible. A handbag sized 'lipstick' was £16. Both sites have some very useful information on choosing and using and links to relevant sites. Now I think a present of this nature needs careful thought but could be acceptable if handled well. How it is presented is of the utmost importance. Keyword here has got to be - Tact. It?s not just 'what' you give it's also 'how' you give it. Taking care over wrapping a present shows you care. Something wrapped in gold tissue and decorated with ribbon will appeal far more than holly bedecked happy Christmas paper. A few well chosen words on a gift card will also be cherished. The Myla.com site actually has a few suggestions if you are hopeless at this sort of thing. See myla, sexy literature. Where an example is "Your love is better than chocolate", this would go nicely with the gorgeous chocs. Perhaps the most important thing of all is to realise that this is about the time when you should really be paying attention to the hints that will be dropped in the near future. Most women do it and, unfortunately, most men don't manage to get the message. But even if you don't get the hints if you bear the basic message of the above in mind she will still have a happy Christmas.

- 31/10/02 Ooo - not the bath experience for me thanks - 80% of gynaecological problems are caused by those bath products! |

- 27/10/02 Oh yes, gifts. I'm writing my Xmas list out as we speak. Can't think what to have this year, it's my Birthday too in December. |

- 26/10/02 Well, I started off thinking "it's a shame I don't have someone to give this opinion to", and ended up nearer "Phew! Thank goodness I don't have to put up with silly presents every year!" lol! :)
(PS I seem to be completely un-typical of girlies-wanting-gifts, though. I just make a list and say - get something!) ;) |
