Sorry, I just wanted to see that title appear. I wouldn't really advocate putting your loved ones under the knife as they might interpret your helpful gift as a hidden dig, and surgery is often expensive.

As someone who works with books for some of the time, I can advocate the worth of the written word. But I'm not talking about normal books. Some titles always work well because they are quite pricey but suitable for many different types.

Martin Parr's 'Boring Postcards', a collection of postcards of motorway services and chalet parks in Wales is ideal - completely meaningless and yet completely essential, the very definition of a coffee table book.

There are a whole series of books in a series called 'The Big Book of...' 'The Big Book of Filth' is my favourite, perfect for expanding the vocabularly of the person who has everything but a foul mouth, while anyone who simply wants a good laugh, or who doesn't have a computer will love 'The Big Book of E-tales', as it distills all of those urban myths that circulate via email into one day-glo pink volume.

Finally, I would heartily recommend 'The F-Word', a book about the history and usage of the most versatile word in the English language in all it's many forms. Essential reading for the broadminded, and certain to turn elderly relatives white with outrage.

To be honest, I felt that although your opinion was excellent, it was slightly short and ended a bit suddenly.

Sounds like you have a very unique and compelling taste in books!!! I may give them a try. It's great that you are reminding everyone of the joy of books - they are not all boring and make great gifts as they can mean a lot more than just what it literally is.
