Advantages: A real money saver, and can be altered to suit everyones tastes
Disadvantages: Is there anyone out there who doesn't read magazines?!!?
Last month, with bills piling high, and with Christmas in the not so distant future, I decided to start budgeting, and try and cut down on my (many) outgoings! Sitting with pen, paper and a pile of receipts and statements, I tried to work out exactly what my money had been disappearing on so speedily!! What shocked me the most, was how much money I spend on magazines. I have always been a zine-a-holic, (I still have stacks of magazines from the 80s with fashion pages that wouldn't look out of place today)but as the years have passed, the price of my 'essential' reading has rapidly increased. Gone are the days when 23p would buy me pages of fashion, photo stories and posters of Spandau Ballet. My itemised monthly list read like this: Now, OK, Heat (I have to satisfy my daily craving for celebrity gossip) Sight and Sound, Empire, Premiere (A film buff to the core) Elle, She, Red, Vogue, Minx....(I could go on, but you get the picture!!) So....if you are stuck for ideas for Xmas presents, a subscription to a magazine would make an IDEAL gift for anyone. If your husband is a car fanatic, your kids can't get enough of the Teletubbies, your best friend is a DJ or your little sister is a pop fan extraordinaire- believe me, there is something out there to please them. And if you are trying to cut down on your own spending...now you know what to ask for. I know I will be!

- 28/11/00 This is a fantastic gift, especially if there are any free gifts with the subscription. I once got a subscription to a magazine, the subscription cost £25 and the free gifts cost about £35! |
