Advantages: None that I can remember!

Disadvantages: Only happens once a year -I think!

I don’t know what it is about Christmas that makes us all believe we are superhuman. We all eat far too much, and there seems to be a never-ending sequence of nights out and parties leading up to it, where we double our yearly intake of alcohol in a few days.

And why do we do it?
To get into the Christmas spirit of course (Christmas spirit in my case being Brandy Vodka Whisky – You get the idea!)

Well I don’t know how many of you out there are of that rare breed that never get a hangover, but unfortunately like a lot of people, I suffer really badly the next day, and if I’ve had a particularly heavy night I just don’t function the next day at all. In fact I normally lie in bed thinking I’m dying, and hoping that whoever is inside my head trying to force a way out with a jackhammer would stop, or at least hurry up and find a way out.

To stop feeling like this I think I’ve tried all hangover cures known to man. The type you buy from the supermarket or Chemist-“Resolve” etc, really don’t work for me, normally all they do is make me throw up and then I feel worse. They don’t really relieve the symptoms -although I do know they work for some people.

There is some scientific evidence to suggest taking "THE HAIR OF THE DOG" does work. Apparently the body will attack the alcohol entering into the system first so leaving the methanol to be broken down more gradually ,therefore easing the symptoms of the hangover

A remedy that everyone will have heard of where you drink lots of water isn’t just an old wives tale. Scientists would go along with this one as it stops dehydration while you sleep. I’ve tried this with varying degrees of success; some times it’s worked other times it hasn’t. There is also a difference of opinion in how much you should take and when you should take it. Some people I know take two or three pints be
fore they go out, others drink one or two pints just before they collapse into bed.

Because friends know how much I suffer they are always coming up with ideas they swear work for them, or that they’ve heard from other people. Here are some of the more strange ones – Eating a handful of raw cabbage:I tried it managed to keep it down (JUST) but it didn’t help.
You could try eating a plate of macaroni cheese, with chocolate – yeah!! - I didn’t even attempt that one.

Drinking a really sweet cup of tea and eating a mars bar helps me if it's not too bad a hangover, but I can't face it if I've had too much the night before.

One remedy that I’ve found does help ease the symptoms, is eating a bowl of tomato soup with lots of black pepper in it. Eating a fried breakfast and drinking lots of irn-bru also helps me get rid of the hangover symptoms quite quickly.

No matter what you try, I suppose the only sure-fire way to avoid a hangover is not to drink, or to drink in moderation.

As for me this Christmas? Well I’ll be stocking up with lots of Tomato soup and Irn-Bru.

My husband rates Irn Bru for his hangover cure. Me I find that chocolate helps as it brings your sugar level up fast. I also drink pints of water before bed if I'm not too drunk to forget!

I'm with you on this one, jaybee, I rate Irn Bru and a fried breakfast as a kill or cure hangover remedy every time!
