Advantages: fun and unique

Disadvantages: none

Christmas stockings seem to be really popular and they are very easy to make. This is good for children to do with the parents, or for the really crafty, it makes a great gift. You simply buy material. Fake furs can be found at sewing shops and fabric stores. Use a template, or make your own with cardboard and trace the stocking shape onto the inside of the fabric (sew your stocking inside out so you have clean linse on the outside). Once sewn, you can get really creative! Add a different color fur trim at the top, or use a fabric that identifies the person the stocking is for. You can use many different trims, and you can add all types of bells and buttons and felt shapes. For felt shapes, just use stencils and cut out your shapes. Sew using large stitches and a different color thread (thick yarns are nice for large stitches). If very crafty, try leathers and silks and vintage fabrics to make a really trendy stocking. Be sure to add the name somehow if making this for a child! You can cut out block letters or use puffy paint, or simply glue and glitter!
