When Jess was 21mths Christmas 99, so I thought she could make Christmas cards for close family and friends. So in November I worked out how many cards I needed, about 9 I think, and while she was in bed I cut out some paper in different shapes, like star, snowman and Christmas trees.Im not artistic(thats why they where simple shapes) but I just drew them on paper and then with different coloured glitter pens, went around the outline. I had to peg these up for a day out of Jess' reach until they dried. I used one of those smalls peg things that you get to peg socks, knickers and things on and hung it up on the curtain rail. Now here was the fun bit.I brought some sticky stars, tinsel (cheap stuff) and some tags and cut it all up for her so she could just stick them all to the cards. She loved it and is certainly more artistic then me!W e just laid some old newspaper down on the table and got some PVA glue and had a really good time. Its grat fun and they learn about texures, colours, shapes and painting their fingers with glu and pulling it off again too.We did about 4 than she got bored so we did it again the following day too. This year we are doing the same thing, but this time we are making Snowmen, Angels and Santas with the inner tube of a toilet roll, cotton wool and pictures of Santa. All these things are more treasured by family that any card you can buy and its FUN! UPDATE... Have just seen this to Disney channel, tried it and it works really well, so for all out there who want to let your kids do some card designing, have a go at this. If you get some paper plates,PVA glue, some sponges, a hole puncher, and some string you can make some printing blocks. Just cut out the shapes you want from the sponges.Eg Christmas tree, hearts, flowers anything simple and stick onto the paper plate. If you punch two holes at each side of the plate, thread some string through so you can put it on your chi
lds hand like a handle. HEY PRESTO.. home made printers. I tried it with a Christmas Tree and shapes and it works perfectly, you can use the waste bits of sponge as silly shapes so no waste. All my families cards are done now because Jess loved using it so much. I have ready mixed paint in bottles but Im sure it would work with most types of childrens paints too. HAPPY PRINTING!!
