I have just returned from an excellent trip to the Scottish Highlands, based in Fort William. The highlight of the week was the steam rail trip from Fort William to Mallaig. I was more than a little sceptical before the trip having had to book in advance and pay £21 each for a trip which it occurred to me could almost be undertaken by road. We just have been on holiday to Bideford in north Devon. We stayed in a little village called Winkleigh, on the four seasons holiday village. A very peaceful site, there was only one hundred caravans, but also a residential site. On the site there was a clubhouse, swimming pool, games room, and a park. In the village of Winkleigh they made the local cider, which wasn’t very nice. The nearest main town was Bideford, which was about thirty minutes drive; it was a big town where you could get anything you needed. If you have never been to Fort William on the west coast of Scotland, you should try. I have heard it described as a 'one street town' and, so it is but it depends what you want when you visit a place. Situated on the west side of Scotland 105 miles north of Glasgow and 65 miles south of Inverness it lies on the shores of Loch Linnhie and not too far from Loch Ness. With Ben Nevis looming behind, Fort William is home to many skiers, back packers and mountain climbers for many months of the year.
