Chirk Castle - 6 miles from Llangollen This is a National Trust Property 2 miles from Chirk village and approximately 6 miles from Llangollen. For Sat Nav users the postcode in LL14 5AF. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday each week from 11am from February half term to the end of October. Closing times vary from 4pm to 5pm depending on the time of year. It is also open on Bank Holidays. The garden and tea rooms open at 10am. The car park is about 200 yards from the castle. My first visit to Llangollen was as a child during an educational primary school holiday. We were boarded in a youth hostel and taken to see the sights and to take part in various activities. My husband and I have since visited on a number of occasions, most recently with our baby son and it certainly makes for a relaxing family daytrip. Llangollen is the Dee Valley, the River Dee flows through the heart of it and makes for very beautiful scenery. There are plenty of attractions to see both in and around Llangollen. I have visited Llangollen several times in 1997 and 1998, on Dr. Who weekends. It is in North Wales and must be one of the prettiest places in the world. We stayed in several hotels, including The Hand Hotel, which has the best views. Llangollen is small and reasonably quiet, but there is a lot to do there. Besides the shops - look out for the excellent huge bookshop ! - there is a very famous railway and - a big attraction for me - the Dr. Who Exhibition !! Yes, this is the best Dr. Who exhibition in the country and attracts fans from all over the country. It houses a wonderful array of props, costumes and a TRADIS console.
