Advantages: another champion

Disadvantages: shame for Sampras

Sampras lost, sampras lost, sampras lost

Thank god! I'm not saying Sampras is not a good player but another final with him winning? Boring wouldn't have been in it.

For anyone who watched it was a stunning match. I originally flicked it on and off in the belief that there was no way that a 19-year-old could upset what would have been sampras's 8th win.

Federer, a former Wimbledon junior champion, had never played sampras before I think he surprised him Sampras looked stressed and worn out throughout the match.

Federer, who is Swiss, has previously reached the last 8 in the french open although he has been knocked out in the first round in the previous two Wimbledon events. Apparently he has been called the new 'Pete Sampras' - well he could be seeing as he's just defeated the 'old' one.

At 19 years old to Sampras's 29, it was clear that Sampras was tiring during the match. Although it was Federer who felt the urge to take his top off every time he sat down.

In the crowd Sampras's wife looked sticken during the game. Although the commentators never lost their interest in her given she was very attractive (anyone remember the, and I quote, 'lovely Daphne
Deckers' Krycek’s girlfriend who all the commentators were a little bit in love with?- on one thrilling occasion we even got treated to a thrilling commentary on why she was not in her chair, could she have gone to the toilet? To eat?)

Winning 7-6 (9-7) 5-7 6-4 6-7 (2/7) 7-5, the news reports still appear, rather unfairly, to have it in for Federer, stating sampras was unlucky and the umpiring was bad. There was one very questionable net shot, but in a 5 set game there are always shots from either side that are debatable. Even if these press (internet) comments were true it does not detract from the game that Federer played which was, at times, inspired.
It's not often you see a love game against Sampras and that’s when I sat up in my seat and thought ' hello he might actually have a chance here'.

Personally I'm rooting for Agassi, as I do every year, hoping for a repeat of 1992. But whatever happens come Sunday their will be a new champion for the first time in 5 years and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it was Federer.

Fine review. Pity about Agassi! And Tim, of course. I think the Croatian may just do it now - Kay
