Advantages: convenience
Disadvantages: fear of a few is making life miserable for the many
Mobile phones have become the target of propaganda that has been started by a politically correct group of social terrorists. We in this age of new labour are being held to ransom by a group of people who are intent on everyone becoming a clone of them. They have targeted the lifestyle of many and have made activities such as foxhunting, fishing, child discipline, motoring, immunisation, smoking and teaching sanitised out of existence. Mobile phones have been targeted using age-old propaganda tools of the press, television and critical mass hysteria. The claims are that mobile phones cause cancer, sterility and antisocial behaviour. This is by virtue of microwaves that seem to contain some magical harmful element. SOME FACTS: Mobile phones do use microwaves. These are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and their wavelength is slightly shorter than light. Other waves in the electromagnetic spectrum are Light, Sound and radio waves. The last time the EM spectrum was accused of such evilness was after the invention of television. Mobile phones are being treated as television was 70 years ago and how we laugh at those prejudices now. Surely people must realise that phones give off no more radiation than all the other electromagnetic pollutants that fill our atmosphere: televisions, microwaves, power lines and cables, and of course this screen that you are looking at now. So why are mobile phones taking the daily flack for this? They cannot be hold solely to blame surely. What about medical X-rays and nuclear power stations? I think time has come for a double-blind randomised trail over this to put it to bed. There may be money in it or there may be big money against it, but we the public need to know and know now and therefore this may have to be a governmental issue. Also we the public need to know now that someone is looking into it now even if results will take time. I have to ask why has th
is propaganda been allowed to breed, what are the hidden agendas? I suspect the answer is nothing more sinister than the terrorists are afraid of new technology or even worse, they don?t like their dinner being interrupted in the restaurant. Do we now really live in such a world where a minority can impose their views on everyone else? Is this the new future where we have to live by the doctrine of the few? Surely these attitudes were Victorian and we have grown beyond this. Don?t be afraid you will not die using your phone, don?t let a few over cautious people indoctrinate you with the view that change is bad, we must progress, evolve or we risk becoming social dinosaurs and our only fate will be creative extinction.

- 23/11/01 If you;re going to MK make sure you book. The top third of the slopes (which have the jumps on them) are also closed because of a burst pipe. Hell it's better than plastic carpet though! Enjoy... |

- 22/11/01 You're right there is a lot of misinformation about the safety of mobiles but there is some quite credible evidence to suggest that there might be a danger in long term exposure in children. With Cancer the problem is that the effects of any substance cannot be truly judged until years after the events take place so we do have to be careful. I'm personally more worried about people having animated conversation on their mobiles while steering one handed, driving at 100mph down the motorway! |

- 22/11/01 Good opinion - but I have heard it recommended that people don't sleep too near to their electronic alarm clocks because of EM radiation - the problem with mobile phones is that people spend large amounts of time with all the radiation right next to their heads which may (or may not) be a problem in the long run.
I agree with Emma below - sometimes I want to hide from my phone - especially when it rings when I'm on the loo LOL! |
