Advantages: Its the most magical time of year for me
Disadvantages: it only happens once a year
I am not writing about my perfect Christmas as such but about what christmas means to me in general.
There is just something about christmas that has always been magical for me.
Despite the fact that I am now 26 I love this time of year. When I was a child my excitement came from the anticipation of the presents I would receive. I used to sit for hours wading though my mums catalogues and writing lists as long as my arm detailing exactly what I wanted Father Christmas to bring me.
Even after I knew that Father Christmas was really my mum and dad nothing changed, I still did the same thing every year. My brother and I would look through all our mum and dads cupboards, wardrobes and everything, even under the bed to see if we could find our christmas presents and even if we did find some of them there was always much more to be opened on the day.
You see, my mum and dad have never had the most money, but they always did their best to make christmas for me and my two brothers as good as it could be and I think that in a lot of ways it is down to them that I still love christmas so much today.
The anticipation of receiving presents, as I have grown older, has been joined by the excitment I get from being able to go out once a year and buy lots of wonderful christmas presents for all the people that I love. I get great pleasure out of every gift I find that I think my family and friends will enjoy.
I love all the christmas lights that decorate the town centre when it is dark and the atmosphere that is present right before christmas when people are doing their last minute christmas shopping. It all adds to the magic of christmas that I hope most people, no matter how old they are, still feel.
Unfortunately, these last two years have not been the best for me as since we got engaged and moved into our house my husband and I have been plagued by bad luck, from being in debt constantly due to mistakes made
by our bank to my husband being made redundant several times in the past twelve months. The only really joyful things that have happened to us have been geting married, finding out I was pregnant two weeks after and the birth of our beautiful son in June.
Even through all this, I can still feel the excitement of christmas building up in me and although we cannot afford to go out and buy the most wonderful presents for our loved ones this year I know I am still going to love everything that happens during the run up to christmas, the day itself and even the new year.
I also know that its going to be even better this year because, even though he is only going to be 6 months old, we have our wonderful son to help us enjoy it even more.
So you see, this isn't about one particular perfect christmas day because to me, they all are.
