Im going to love Christmas even more than ever this year.I have two daughters lucy now 5 mths and Jess 2.7 years old.Lucy is a little too young to know all about Christmas but Jess...well shes already in the Christmas spirit! My perfect Christmas would be anything that was an improvement on LAST YEAR!!I was pregnant which was ace apart from I had severe sickness, so I couldnt keep a thing down. This was made 10000x worse as we all went down with flu! Tim and myself went down with it on Christmas week on the Monday. Jess was fine then, running around as normal while I was curled up on the sofa with homemade hot lemon, duvet around me and armed with her favorite videos.Tim took two days off of work and I nearly fained as he NEVER has time off. Then on Christmas eve Jess awoke feeling unwell and was whinging. It was when I dressed her I noticed a red rash up her arms, neck and back.Im far from a neorotic mum, but it didnt look like any rash Ive ever seen so I did the tumbler test.To those who dont know, if you put a glass onto a rash it should fade which means its in the skin but it if doesnt fade its blood, like Sepiceamia or Meningitis Well, some of it faded but some of it didnt so we took her down to the surgery where she saw GP.He told us that it was a viral rash and it should clear within a few days. What a relief to hear that so as Jess is a health young lady we thought she would be ok.. By xmas morning she didnt sleep well, and she didnt want to open her pressies, she wouldn't eat and had very little to drink and I was really worried about her. Not my little girl at all and by the evening I had to take her to hopital as I was really frightened that she would dehydrate. They took me to go home and if necessary syringe feed her water as she had the flu. By that time both Tim and I were recovering but having the three of us unwell at Christmas was just the pits.I felt useless and looking after an unwell child is horrid.Fortunatly after boxing day she
stared to drink again and was back to her normal self but her good eating habits didnt return until 3 weeks later. All she would eat in the mean time was mash potato. This year Jess will certainly know about Santa, she asked me if he could bring her a Pooh bear jigsaw and has "helped" Santa wrap Lucys presents up ready for him to take away. Anyway I think as long as you are well enough to enjoy Christmas, you are sharing it with the people who you love, and you feel loved and cared for thats all that matters. SO CHEERS EVERYONE....AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

- 29/11/00 I had two Christmases in a row like the one you had last year, but I still smile at the memory of the duty doctor down on the floor playing with my son's new train set one Christmas morning! |
