Advantages: It's nearly Christmas

Disadvantages: It's rather pricy these days

While reading another users top ten Chirstmas wish list, I decided I would write up my own, mainly because it might help me focus my mind on Christmas for a while and let me get some of my thoughts down, something I seldom have time to do. Also, it might help me come up with an ideas list, something my girlfriend has been asking for and I have been struggling to come up with.

Some of my initial thoughts that popped into my head when reading made me realise that I must be growing up as some of them are rather more sensible than they might have been a few years ago.

1:
Relaxing time with my girlfriend, my soul mate and my best friend.
Luckily those three people are one and the same. Although we live together and spend as much time as possible together, it's not often that we get some real good quality time to relax and do nothing together, I really hope this Christmas we do have time to sit and just be together.

2:
Some good quality cooking ware, baking trays etc.
My girlfriend and I moved in together about 2 years ago, at the time (and in fact still now) we didn't have a great deal of money so some of the things we purchased were pretty cheap and basic. Included in this was our backing trays and tins, we have had to throw away a few of these as the none stick coating has started to come off. We both love cooking and baking, and would love to have some good quality trays that will last us for several years.

3:
A nice (massive) Christmas Dinner.
I am someone who rather suffers with their weight, I love food and I love to eat. I have terrible will power normally and find it very easy to put on weight, as such this year I have for most part been having to be fairly strict about what I have been eating. Right now I am calorie counting and trying hard to lose what I can before the end of the year, and in fact before my 30th Birthday in April. One thing I find makes it easier to be going without is the promise of something good in the near future. I have promised myself a Christmas of food indulgence. I am really looking forward to roast potatoes, bread sauce, mountains of vegetables, gravy etc. All home cooked by my girlfriend and I. Hmmm I can't wait!

4:
Peace and relaxation.
I know the festive period is often one of partying and excitement but this year I would really like it to be (for at least part of the time) a time of relaxtion, a time I can switch off and just enjoy being alive. I've quite recently realised that I find it hard to switch off and seldom feel like my batteries are fully recharged. I intend for my break at Christmas to be a time to recharge my batteries and feel good.

5:
Some nice time with family.
When my girlfriend and I moved in together, we decided that we would like to have Christmas together as we both love Christmas and really wanted it to be special time when we could be together. However, we both also wanted to involve our families some how. As such new traditions have arisen, on Christmas Eve
we now visit my family for dinner, and on Boxing Day we visit my girlfriends family, who also have her sister, her partner and theirs kids, so it is a big family day. It's really nice to be a part of 3 Christmases, and it's nice to spend time with our families.

6:
Snow.
I know the climate is changing, the world is warming up etc etc, but I would love for Christmas to be snowy. There is something so magical about opening the curtains to see a world completely white. However most of the time that magic is washed away very quickly by the realisation that I will still have to at least try to get to work and then be stuck in the office all day, unable to go out side till the evening by which time the snow will have become
dirty slush and ice, just in time for me to drive home. I really would love for the magic of the snow to be combined with the magic of Christmas. It would just feel so much nicer than the wet grey Christmas days we have had the last few years. Heck, even if it was just cold and frosty rather than warm and wet I think I'd be happy!

7:
The big Christmas Day Film Premier.
I remember when I was a kid, and in fact even up until a few years ago, the early evening of Christmas Day always featured a big film premier, something which you would watch with the whole family, and you knew that pretty much everyone you knew would be watching it. These days with films coming out on DVD so quickly and so affordably, the big Christmas film seems to have died, the last couple of years it's been something that has been out on dvd for ages, or has been doing the rounds on Sky movies for the last 3 months.

8:
Enough time to sit down and watch as many films as possible.
Following on from my wish for the big film premier, I'd like to have time to watch as many films as I can. Watching films is one of my favourite hobbies but I find I don't have much time to watch them, there are always so many other things going on or that need doing, it is hard to sit down for two or three hours.

9:
Some Good News.
The news over the last few months has been nothing but surpremely dull and depressing Credit Crunch, economic crisis, war torn countries needing aid etc etc.I would love it if on Christmas Day the news came on and something over whelmingly positive was reported, some major break through in the treatment of a terrible disease, A peace treaty in a land of seemingly permanent unease, a mass population explosion of guinea pigs who could be easily trained, something to put a smile on the face of the country, or infact the world!

10:
A scalextric set. This has been on my Christmas list for longer than I care to remember. Ok I'm growing up now and getting a little more sensible, but the idea of a long circuit with long straights and tight bends, little cars whizzing round at break neck speeds....well, it still excites me! Along with new developments in technology since I was a kid, such as over taking sections where you can take the inside line on corners, and an automated computer controlled opponent which learns the course and learns how to drive it as fast as possible, in order to give a single person a really good opponent to race against; it really does still seem exciting to me. There is sadly a however...that is my sensible side knows it will take up a lot of space which in our current residence is rather at a premium, and I know I wouldn't get much time to play with it either, so I know it's not really a practical thing to get...but it'll still be appearing on my Christmas List, just incase!

Well, this list may not have helped me very much with my Christmas list but it's certainly got me thinking about Christmas a little and has put a smile on my face....though that's mainly due to the thought of eating roast potatoes...

Summary: I can't wait to see what Christmas brings
