Advantages: roast turkey, xmas pudding, wine, toys, chocolate and an end to CFS
Disadvantages: no batteries, no cable, no plug, broken toys, no Only Fools & Horses and grief
In my youth, not so long ago, everything on my wish list would be toys, toys and more toys. My wish list would consist of the following: Lego; Star Wars Millennium Falcon (which I never got <tear…sniff>), Star Wars figures, the latest computer or video console; computer games; a bike; skateboard; electronics set and some excellent board games like Monopoly, Scrabble, The Game of Life, Boggle or Risk. I’m older and wiser so my current Top Ten Christmas Wish List would be: 1. Roast turkey, with little succulent sausages wrapped in bacon, plenty of warm gravy, crisp and crunchy roast potatoes, sprouts (only 3 for me!), peas and broccoli, a generous helping of stuffing and cranberry sauce, complimented with a glass of chilled white wine. Followed by Christmas pudding with hot steaming custard and then a second helping with fresh cream washed down with a glass of sherry or brandy or both! It is *the* most enjoyed meal of the whole year. It also helps when your fiancée’s Dad is a butcher (getting great turkeys and sausages) and your Mum’s an excellent cook. 2. Everyone to enjoy the day to the full. It is a pretty simple request but one of the hardest to achieve. 3. I wish for Only Fools and Horses to return for either a one off or a trilogy Christmas special. Christmas isn’t the same without Only Fools and Horses! It is *the* best comedy series the BBC have ever produced. Christmas won’t be Christmas without the likes of the loveable rogue and wheeler-dealer Del Boy Trotter; that gullible plonker-come-tart Rodney, the unluckiest seaman in the 2nd World War, Uncle Albert (RIP), TV watching and gambler Grandad (RIP), and loveable away with the fairies Trigger and Co. I will never forget the Dynamic Duo running down the streets dressed as a rather short fat Batman and long lanky Robin; Del and Rodney actually fulfilling their dream of becoming millionaires; or the jolly boys outing to Southend.
> 4. An end to commercialised Christmas! Christmas should start in December not August! Let us also not forget that what Christmas is all about. I wish for an end to the continuous adverts of latest toys and gifts. Children’s now associate Christmas more with toys than the birth of Jesus. I’m no bible basher but an end to commercialism and a little more attention to the true meaning of Christmas would be appreciated. 5. Purely selfish reasons a cure for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) would be good. I would normally wish for world peace and an end to all diseases but I’ll be happy with just an end to CFS. 6. I would wish that all manufacturers could supply all toys with the appropriate size batteries, power cables and plugs. A simple request most companies tend to ignore all except for the plugs that are now fitted as standard. 7. I wish that all toys, computers or games worked first time very time. There is nothing as frustrating as getting a broken toy or game. It ruins not only Christmas but Boxing Day as well. This is the day when you take the goods back to get replaced. You want to complain, get a refund or a replacement along with another 50 annoyed customers. Usually the staff couldn’t give a damn, which makes the situation ever worse. 8. I wish for a whole new set of original Christmas songs on the radio this year and every year. I also prefer if any boy band didn’t sing them! There are only so many years you can tolerate the same songs over and over again by the likes of Slade, Wizard, The Pogues & Kirsty McCall and Cliff Richard Xmas tunes! I certainly wish that Noddy Holder seriously thought about retirement rather than warble “Itzzzz Chrrrristmassss!” each year! 9. I would also wish that Dooyoo would give out free t-shirts to all their Gurus and Hall of Famers because they look pretty good. Grey would be my ideal colour in a medium better make that large after all t
hat turkey and Christmas pudding. 10. I wish everyone at Dooyoo and all its members a very Merry Christmas. Baa Humbug Scrooge a.k.a. Fluffypup ; )

- 15/11/01 Brilliant and funny op - and I agree, a happy family is probably the best Christmas (and isn't necessarily achieved by all being in the same room) |
