The SYDNEY 2000 Olympic games have now come to a close, and what a success it has been. Not only for the Australian organisers but also for all the teams taking part. Britain has done especially well, wining eleven gold, ten silver and seven bronze medals. I know that some of the credit must go to lottery funding and sportscouncilgrants. They have provided money for new sports facilities for our athletes. However, more funding is required, and more facilities are needed all over Britain to ensure our future success.
If the lottery and the sports council continues to help fund and build facilities, they will be giving our children the opportunity to one day become winners, and hopefully maintaining and improving the standard of British sport.
I must congratulate our Olympic team on their success. Let’s hope it isn’t a One off.
We must build for the future.
