No matter what you may think about Britney Spears, there's no denying her commercial appeal, particularly to the teen market at the start of her career. As she has aged into a twentysomething, her fan base has moved with her, and her music now appeals to a slightly older market. Teen girls have Hannah Montana and High School Musical, and things like Camp Rock and the Jonas Brothers, so Britney's power of this end of the market has diminshed somewhat. As a result, her music hasn't so much matured as been targeted more towards an older audience, lyrically and visually, almost becoming more adult.
It is in making a comparison between the music she releases now, such as the album Circus, and her older stuff, such as this album, Oops...I Did It Again, which a much more teeny bop feel to it. There are a few tracks off the album that were released, becoming number 1s straight away, and there are also some which seem to be mere album fillers, fulfilling the quota in order to make sure there are enough to pop an album on the shop shelves.
The title track sits proudly at number 1 on the tracklist, and was a very catchy number when it came out. Similarly, Stronger, at track 2 was also a hit, and this one shows the start of the pressure that fame can bring in its lyrics. Track 7 is a nice, melodic example of how 'nice' her voice can sound, and while it aims at the same teen market, there is definite vocal maturity there.
However, I wasn't really a fan of the rest of the album. When Your Eyes Say It is a load of sentimental nonsense, and the lyrics just bug me, as does the tune itself. Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know is similarly a disappointment, although it was somewhat a hit for Britney. However, I think part of this was the fact that it was her performing it and releasing it, and nothing to do with whether the track was any good or not.
Overall, there are 13 tracks, and while they all conform to a teen market, and no doubt hit this niche very well, they are all just too similar. her cover of I Can't Get No Satisfaction just doesn't sound right with her voice, and was perhaps a couple of years too early for her in terms of maturity, and it perhaps sums up the limbo status she was heading for at the time. This album was released in 2000, just before she started with the whole changing into a woman thing. She hit the market with her teeny bopper appeal, and has recently launched herself back into the limelight (apart from her disappointing live performances), but this album is a bit of a let down unless you're the target teenage girl, I feel.
Luckily, it's one my wife bought, as she was (near enough) the target market at the time. We don't listen to it much, and I very much doubt that will change any time soon. The album is currently available from amazon.co.uk for around the £3 mark for a brand new copy, but 1p on the marketplace.
My eight year old niece came to stay over Christmas and she must have played Britney Spears ?Oop I did It Again? about a hundred times. I am know big Britney fan but when she said ?Auntie can I put this album on?I had no qualms. It was Christmas after all.? However, after listening to it for a full week I have to say it?s not one of the best albums that I have heard. It?s a typical pop album. What?s a typical pop album. A couple of good hits and a couple of extremely dreary ones. There?s some extremely poor tracks like ?Dear Diary? a song written by Britney herself. You can tell, it?s very soppy and unless your feeling very depressed it?s not one that will catch on. ?Can?t Make you love Me? maybe this song was written for her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Again, it?s very poppy and way to soppy for me. When you listen to ?What you see is what you get? you may have thought you listened to ?Oops I did it again?. I may seem a bit harsh but if you know a bit about music and are looking for something quality. Then, this album provided with very few. ?Boombastic Love? has exactly the same chorus as ?Oops I did it Again?. One of the lyrics that stood out for me was on a track called ?Overprotected? ?I?m so fed up with being told to be something else but me?. I may seem critical but if you are over the age of 14 then this album isn?t for you. It won?t be a album that you will listen to a lot. If you appreciate your music then look elsewhere.
Britney Spears second album is an album that is targeted to all those people that made her famous. Most of the songs of the album concentrate on love gained, love lost, and happiness. Oops!...I Did It Again contains quite similar style pop music. It has maybe more influences from r&b and that's why someone wants to say that it is more nature. The album is started with "Oops... I Did It Again!", the first single. If you like her first single, you will surely like the rest of the album. For me, this is one of the best track of the album. One of the great song is Stronger a Great Beat, Great Song. There is a different style in 'Don't Go Knockin' On My Door', to prove they aren't all the same. One of the most interesting tracks is Rolling Stones cover, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. I think it is very good. The vocoders are out in force for 'Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know', a Shania Twain-esque (well she did write it) stadium filling sound, complete with 80's guitar solo to rival anything that Jon Bon Jovi ever threw our way. 'What U See (Is What You Get)' is similar to Oops I did it again. It's a potential hit!! Damn good! Another song that stands out in the album is "Lucky", which tells us that stardom and money don't necessarily give you happiness. It's a pop song, it's damn good!! 'One Kiss From You' it's another great track!! Very good! Then there is 'Where Are You Now', a slick R&B ballad that could easily be one of the standout tracks on the latest Mariah or Toni Braxton release. 'Can't Make You Love Me' is another good rock ballad!! Very very good. 'When Your Eyes Say It' welcomes Britney's most sophisticated sound to date, the beautiful ballad bathed in a classic string arrangement. Britney Spears tries to sing some ho
nest songs, and "Girl in the Mirror"” is the result. There isn't a potential hit but also it's good! The closing track 'Dear Diary' is the only track co-written by Ms Spears herself, and some would say it shows. It's damn good! The album is fantastic, there aren't any bad tracks. If she continues to mature in every one of her albums, then maybe by the next one she will have deeper songs. Listen to it!
I truly do not understand what is so special about this supposedly virgin who does better moves than profassinal strippers, aka:hookers. For the love of god has the humanity really lost its intelligence? this album was the best selling of this year and it contains nothing but miss spears' hummings digitally remastered to make a sound! this talentless wonder who has become famous through her sexuality (which is disgusting! have u ever seen her skin?) has become an over night succes. her albums have been selling like water bottles in the sahara desert! there is nothing special about her except the media feeds us this crap about her being good and amazing! what has become of us? have we succumbed to the ways of TV and media so much that we believe anything they tell us? if they say she is amazing and beautiful we beleive them? good god, britny spears is nothing but a dirty old man's wet dream who's become famous for her breast implants and the ignorance of fourth graders and their mothers who say spears is a great role model? great rolemodel? of courseQ if u want ur daughter to grow out to be a 5$ hooker claiming to be a virgin whilr doing anything possible to avoid a holesome image!
Britney's new album, "Oops...I did it again" is, in my opinion, her best album yet. It contains the singles "Oops...I did it again", "Lucky", and "Stronger". It also contains all of the other songs you saw Britney perform live on her Oops 2000 tour. This album shows Britney's unbelievable talent and amazing voice. There are currently two versions of the CD available to buy, the original version, containing 13 tracks, and the new version, containing, the same 13 tracks, plus 3 new tracks and some multimedia footage. Personally, I feel that the best tracks on this CD are "Lucky" and "When your eyes say it". There isn't a bad song on it! One of the songs, entitled, "Dear Diary", is written by Britney herself and has very personal feelings in it, making it better than ever for all fans out there.
