Advantages: Inexpensive.easy to look after

Disadvantages: The box shows them doing things they cant!

I have two children and each year try to find something a bit unusual as a stocking filler and last year found a gift for only £6.00 that is still in daily use and has produced millions of tiny babies!

Sea Monkeys.

The Sea Monkey is a tiny Shrimp like creature that grows from eggs no bigger than a pin head, they grow long tails, mate, lay eggs, die and are born again!

The kit comprises of a little viewing tank, with a light, that holds about a pint of water, growth food, eggs and water purifier. There is also a comprehensive book about the care and life cycle of these tiny creatures.

We started ours on christmas afternoon, and before the week was over had hundreds of tiny things swimming about. They react to light and will swim towards it as though they have been trained to do so.

If they should die, and believe me, they are very hardy, you let the water evaporate, refill it and they are re born!

My son, who is 10, has cared for his now for 11 months, we must be on at least our 5th generation,he never gets tired of them.

They are really fascinating, easy to care for and dont need house training.

They are for sale in Tesco,Woolworth and Pets At Home.A really unusual gift, not to expensive and gives months of fun.
