Advantages: Beautiful landscapes

Disadvantages: A little on the wild side in places

Perthshire is a large county that sweeps up from the lowlands into the start of the highlands. For that reason you get to see many of the facets of Scotland all in one go. Don't be put off by the gothic drearyness of Dundee - you have to go further than that to see the real beauty of this country.
Once you are past Perth the scenery cascades into heather clad mountain ranges, tops tipped with snow and an extreme isolation that doesn't exsist any where else in Europe today.
You really do need to have a camera at the ready at all times, every scene is picturesque.
Crieff, Pitlochry and Killiekrankie are all worth the visit. They have become very tourist orientated recently so every shop seems to sell whiskey and kilts. Blair Castle is magnificent, there are plenty of other smaller castles in the area, too numerous to mention.
And if you really do want to get away from it all, then I suggest a trip down the side of Loch Rannoch. There is only one road, a very long and windy road, that stops abrubtly in the moors, with touristic sites of a station, one pub and a lot of deer.

Summary:
