I would just like to write a piece on the Paralympics, which were held after the Olympic games in Sydney. There hasn’t been enough coverage given to the events and I think the Great Britain did superb to come a very respectable second behind Australia in the medal table. It was the best showing ever, every athlete did there best contributing to the brilliant games for the GB Paralympics. The paralympians proved to everyone that nothing is beyond anyone, they had the guts, the determinations and the will power to compete. They didn’t let their physical disability stop them. They are a symbol of hope and optimism for anyone who needs encouraging. The likes of Tanni Grey Thompson won four gold medals with some excellent performances, its no mean feet and every medal was won with hard work. Paralympians deserve more credit that our able bodied great athletes like Steve Redgrave, Denise Lewis. These people fight the prejudice society, which we live in. They don’t get the coverage, the chance to appear on TV but they still make it. These are the true champions, these people rise to the top through all the odds, thy don’t waste their lives, they use every bone in their body to help them and do an equally excellent job as the able bodied athletes. Well done to all the Paralympians, you have my support and my recognition and I’ll follow you even if the media won’t.

- 15/11/00 Well done to them from me too. The coverage this time was actually a lot more extensive than ever before - shows you what it has been like. |
