Portugal v France (28 June 19:45 BST)Newest Review: ... so-called golden generation played excellently. France, as World Champions, displayed world class football. As we entered extra time, you still had the feeling that France would win. The problem with the golden goal rule is that both teams are very nervous about attacking and then making a mistake for the other team to counter attack and score. It took until the 27 minute of extra time before the first real chance occurred. A French player ran into the box and shot a cross shot towards goal. The ball may not have gone in but Xavier, the blond haired Portugal defender blocked the shot. At first it seemed to hit his leg, but in replays it... more |

A great game which had everything. There was a great goal from the Portugal striker Gomas, brilliant skill from Zidane and Figo and controversy. The match after 90 minutes was still 1-1 with the French goal coming from Henry. This Portugal team, made up of the so-called golden generation played excellently. Portugal and France, a game which went according to formbooks but in no way indicative of the level of play which both sides had. A game whereby you could say that both teams deserved to win. A game that was decided on a handball incident of Abul Xavier in the 117th minute, the man who played extremely well defending throughout the match and even came close to clinching it with a superb header if not for the intervention of our friendly Fabien. I feel sorry for Portugal, but not because that France didn't deserve to win, but to lose in such a manner is the cruelest thing in sport. I guess that's what you get in a game of football where a goal counts so ... Read the complete review

Congratulations to the French, I would rather the Portugese went through as they have played the most consistent football of the tournament and have shown real team spirit throughout. Until the last few minutes of extra time late last night. And who can blame them for their explosive behaviour, the referee did not have any control over the situation and should have calmed the players down long before the ugly scenes of the mobbed referee. No referee has ever changed his mind in a professional game because the players convinced him that he was wrong in his decision. But last night the Portugese appeared to forget this. Professional footballers they weren't. A ... Read the complete review

Billed as a top match, it lived up to expectations with some great flowing play from both teams and some tense moments. The game got off to a flier early on when Nuno Gomes struck a great ball into the back of Bartez's and France's net. The game picked up rapidly from here with a heated midfield battle, both defenses peforming well, with a stunning performance from the top man Zidane. Five minutes into the second half, Thierry Henry brings France back level and the game goes to another level with consistently excellent football being played in all areas of the pitch. Unfortunately, no one was able to capitalise on all the great movement and midfield play, so ... Read the complete review

The game we had all been dying to see didn?t start off in quite the mouthwatering manner we hoped for. Semi finals are always fairly nervous affairs, a case of so near yet so far if defeated, nobody wants to be the one making the silly mistakes. In the early stages evertons abel xavier, looking more like doctor zeus with every passing today was looking invincible, even tackling the man zidane with aplomb. After twenty minutes of stalemate the previuosly unfancied (except by my girlfriend) nuno gomes lets fly with a strike batistuta would have been proud of. Barthez had no chance. This seemed to liven proceedings. Five minutes into the second half, with the head to ... Read the complete review
