France are through to the final, but only just. Portugal put up a brave fight, right to the bitter end. Xavier, who had played quite well in the final minute sort of hand balled in the penalty area and a penalty was awarded to France.

It seems penalties right near the end are the flavour of the European cup. Remember the last few matches?

This time it was not missed, Zidane sent the keeper the wrong way and safely put it in the net. Portugal were still protesting, it seems, to the moment the players walked off.

It now looks like Italy (my team) are in with a chance.
