Rouwkes Drift Ruby Cabernet Merlot . . . What a cracking wine, this has a full bodied, energetic flavour, crammed full of berries, tea, blackberry, toffee and tar, it has a lovely heady summery bouquet, and yet has enough tannin to linger on the tongue like a favourite memory. However, a word of caution, this is a 14% proff vino, adequate enough to knock the socks off anyone, and a wine that needs to be treated with a modicum of respect. I was very sceptical about the raving of wine critics, concerning how fabulous Sparkling red wine was, personally I thought it was a recipe for disaster. However curiosity got the better of me and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I have tried a few but my favourite is definitely Cockatoo Black, which sparkling red wine from Australia. The grape variety, which is used, is cabernet sauvignon. This wine has a lot of depth to it, with hints of blackcurrant and ripe fruit and a subtle oak finish.
