Sampras v RafterNewest Review: ... that we could have predicted! Pat let it slip and once Pete the machine kicked in it was all over. It was fitting that they showed the semi between Pat and Andre during the rain, but it was never going to happen again. However as seen from the parade of champions, you can't beat quality, and that is something that Pete Sampras oozes, and I hope he does not play till he is 40 or he will start losing it. Perhaps quit now while on top? Doesn't Borg look well these days? ... more |

Well we all settled down to watch yesterday afternoon and about 7 hours after it should of started, we finally got the result that we could have predicted! I've been reading some of the other opinions on Pete Sampras, many saying he should retire and give someone else a chance. WHY? If there was anyone else good enough to beat him and become Wimbledon Champion then good on them, but at the moment there's not. Why should he retire to give them a chance. Would you give up something you excelled at because it wasn't fair on the others. I don't think so. It would be like telling the other countries in the World Cup they couldn't play this year so England could have a chance at winning. I'm not a fan of Pete Sampras at all but until the time when someone comes along a beats him fair and ... Read the complete review

I must have been one of a handful of people grateful for the downpours at SW19! Having other 'duties' for most of Sunday morning and afternoon I was sure I'd miss the final, so imagine the pleasant surprise, when I return home to find the game poised at 4-4 in the first set. Joy! Like so many on Centre Court I was rooting for the under-dog (as anyone who plays Sampras is bound to be) so with the game stopped at a crucial point, deuce on the Rafter serve I feared for the pony-tailed Australian. Would he be able to hold his nerve? and more importantly hold his serve! Fortunatley the answer was 'yes' and both these sluggers ensured the ... Read the complete review

Well the mens final is finished and Pete Sampras won it yet again. I quite enjoyed it and thought it was a good match. At times I even thought that Pat Rafter might take the title, but once Sampras goes for the kill that's it. It's a shame he won't retire to give the rest of them a chance but he's already said he'll be back next year. Of course it rained too. It wouldn't be Wimbledon if we didn't have to endure endless re-runs of 20 year old matches. It was really nice at the end when he searched and found his parents. The people in the crowd must have wondered what he was doing! When his father gave him a big bear-hug I must ... Read the complete review

Oh surprise surprise, Sampras has won it again! Thats the 7th time now that Sampras has won wimbledon. Rafter was good too to get here - admitted. But Pete sampras is too good. I would like to see sampras retire and give the British a chance.. But we all know it wont happen!! The tears after he won it said it all really didnt it. Sampras has to be the biggest and best champion of Mens tennis of all time.. Of course he wont retire until he's won everything possible to win as many times as possible. And i say Good luck to him! No other tennis player truly deserves the feat that he has accomplished like sampras has done! ... Read the complete review
