Advantages: A spirited display

Disadvantages: An obvious mismatch

The semi-final of Sampras versus Voltchkov went as expected with Sampras winning in straight sets with a 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 win. A seemingly comfortable score line for Sampras but in no way a reflection of the resistance showed by Voltckov. Ranked 237-th coming into Wimbledon, it would be reasonably successful to just have mqualified for the main draw. But to come all the way to the semi-finals and play Pete Sampras, the most successful tennis player in recent times, is an achievement of great magnitude. Voltchkov played with the heart of a lion and the ferocity of a tiger, something which all sports enthusiast crave for. Granted that he was way out of his league against Sampras who displayed such great consistency in his serves but what he lacked for in skill , he made up with guts.
At 4-4 in the 3rd set, he tried , and tried and tried to hold his serve to make a match of it, (going to deuce 4 times if I'm not mistaken), but finally losing out in an epic battle. His dives, left and right made the crowd cheer and that's what sports is about, a form of entertainment. Sampras obviously made no mistake with his service game and wrapped it up quickly. Well done, Voltckov!
