Second Test - Lord's

Newest Review: ... the early edge. Day two saw dejavu, as England’s inept first knock is again 150 too short to be competitive. And its that flashing blade of Gilchrist who again put England’s Ashes hope firmly to bed. Australia averages an incredible plus 164 on first innings lead under Waugh and England duly bumped it up or notch or two. With a brisk 405 on the board it was game set and match to the Roos before we come out that famous gate. Gates are very much open as the ball swings and cuts between trembling batsmen’s legs. Yet again England’s middle order fell away like Colin Montgomorie in a major. Like the batsmen sharing out... more

Here we go again at head quarters with three straight Lords test wins behind us. One –nil down against the Aussies, nothing ever changes, bit like the weather as the battleship gray skies skim over the ground shedding portent tears of woe, charitably holding back the inevitable. Day one saw the return of the establishments blue eyed boy at the temporary helm. Athurton lead them out to the furtive applause and creek of the old gate, or was it Ramprakashes rotting test-batting average. Gillespie nipped Trescothick out early, a few showers later and two more followed. McGrath got his man Athers, dismissal number 15 of the Cambridge blue for a worthy ...  Read the complete review

After the rout that was the Second Ashes Test between England and Australia at Lords, the question on everyone’s lips is "How did England capitulate in such disastrous fashion?" It is traditional after every England defeat for cricket journalists to turn on the team and produce headlines about root vegetables. England supporters in general, believing their team should be the best in the world, are not tolerant of failure. This time, however, the disappointment is more acute than usual because England have shown they can be so much better. Before this summer they had built a winning run stretching back over four series. Even now they are 3rd ...  Read the complete review

Second Test - Lord's: TIME WASTED (301 words)

I was looking forward to the second test for two weeks and even took some holiday time to watch it then what happens the rain steps in. Now the actual time the rain was falling was about 1 and a half hours yet about 3 quarters of the match was off why? The umpires yes should take the players off if it rains but why for such long periods. The pitch was inspected after the rain interval and then once declared fit for play it took a further 45mins to get players on the pitch in which time it could have rained again. Why in this day and age can't the players be ready at the time of the inspection and play straight away they do in tennis. ...  Read the complete review

It’s desperate times for English cricket. It all seamed so good last year, we beat the West Indies in a test series, and then also continued the run into the two match series against Pakistan unbeaten in eleven test matches. Then the bubble burst. They lost the second test to Pakistan, to draw the series, and then went on to have a pretty disastrous one-day international Natwest triangular series with Pakistan and Australian. Then came the 1st test in the Ashes series at Edgebaston. Well the less said about this the better really. England lost by an innings and basically collapsed with the Auzzie’s being better in every department. They batted better with ...  Read the complete review

This opinion will be different from my first test opinion because i am going to update it after each day instead of going through innings by innings. Austrailia came into this with an unchanged side and once again England had too swop thare team around again due to poor performances or injuries. Hussain was taken out of the team because of his dodgy fingers always getting broken and the selectors dropped Afzaal this was probably due to his poor performance and Giles was dropped because Lords is not a Spinners pitch. Instead we have brought in Greame Thorpe who i think is one of our best players and is worthy of his place in the team and we have brought in Ramprakash who ...  Read the complete review
