Advantages: The underdogs win again

Disadvantages: Not pretty to watch

Over the last few years, Norway have achieved a remarkable level of success for such a small country and have done it by using similar methods to those that Jack Charlton employed with the Republic of Ireland, ie defence and hard work.

Last night, as Britney might say, they did it again, turning over an ordinary looking Spain side, who seem to be falling into the perennial trap of under-achieving in major events.

With three top strikers in the form of Solksjaer, Flo and Iversen, commentators are continually foxed into thinking the Scandinavians are going all out for goals, when this is the last thing their manager asks of them, more content at them dropping back into midfield to bottle the game up.

It's not pretty to watch, but, when you're a small country, you play to your strengths and Norway's strength is hard work. They probably won't win much playing this way, but it constantly gets them to the finals of these events, so they must be doing something right.
